Where I Hang Out Online: A Directory

Let's face it, Xanga is awesome...but it isn't the only place that gets my attention. Most of my internet browsing has to do with Video Games, but I use it for other things as well.

1up: Called the home for Gamers. 1up has plenty of flaws, the design isn't really that nice, the point system is a mess, they don't hand out contest prizes to users when they are supposed to, its unclear whether they are being controlled by corporate giant companies, etc. 1up may be the only sort of stable Gamer community that exists on the web though, and its been around since 2004 I believe, my appearance coming in January 2005.

Delicious: My favorite bookmarking website. I keep my bookmarks here so that I can access sites I see no matter whether I'm at home, school, or I'm at some other random computer (like I am right now).

Gamespite: My favorite Video Game website at the moment. It is Jeremy Parish' personal website that has kind of transformed into more of a Video Game community website than a personal site because of all the writing going on by site contributors.

Gmail: You can't deny that Gmail runs super quick and has easy organization tools. I use it for most of my e-mail communication online, and for signing up for services across the internet.

Facebook: This one happened after my initial Social Networking burst. Most of my college friends had moved on to Facebook when they graduated, and I wanted to keep in touch with them, so I created one. Now all high schoolers have started to flock there as well. The applications can make the site kind of annoying, but sometimes fun. Photo tagging has to be its best feature, photos retain more quality here than on other competitor sites. I set my privacy setting all the way up here as well, because with settings all the way up I can post more private matters to the people I select, and I have way to many pictures on there for the public to have.

Myspace: Like many of my peers, I own one of these and check it daily. I find it somewhat uninteresting and mainly use it for layout creating and to keep mildly in touch with people, or to remind me of people I might otherwise forget. I set my profile to private for utmost privacy, I don't want creepy people, enemies, or simply people I don't consider my friends looking at my pictures or information.

Yelp: The place to look up the dirt on where you are going to eat or do business at before you head there. JONASAPPROVED is the one that got me onto this site and I've been an Elite Member since 2006. My reviews have slowed as my laziness and interest in other places has soared, but I still have a special spot for this place. I've seen the Tampa community grow much bigger with much more reviews than there once were.

YouTube: Although Google made me upset when discussions began of revealing private information of YouTube users to Viacom, I still can't deny that YouTube is the perfect place to go when you are really bored and need some easy entertainment, though not always uncopyrighted.

4th of July Recap

For my 4th of July, my family and I went to Lido Beach in Sarasota, Florida. You couldn't ask for a more perfect day. The water clear blue. The shells on the sand didn't hurt. The skies were perfectly untouched, and not accompanied by wind. It was pretty much the opposite of how the weather has been all summer. We even saw dolphins swimming in the water, doing a couple of flips in the air. I almost wish I had brought my camera with me, but sometimes it's better to just enjoy a moment than to spend all your time trying to capture it into a camera.

Once we finished up at the beach, we proceeded to have dinner at Tommy Bahamas', a restaurant owned by the clothes designer and just as pricey. I had crab bisque for the first time, and I have to say that lobster bisque is much more delicious in comparison. Other dishes consumed included plantain chips, a pasta, and the best coconut shrimp I have ever had in my life.

When we drove back from the beach, my sister rode in the car with us, which has not happened since back in the days when she used to live with us. It was pretty entertaining and a flashback to when I was way younger and when she wasn't so mature. After arriving back in town we picked up a package of fireworks for about $50 and then headed back to my sisters to start the show.

The box had a large amount of fireworks, and we saw everything from shooting missiles, to spark shows, and finally to the big launchers in the air that everyone loves to watch from afar. Overall, a perfect day.

I've noticed that my 4th of July's are never the same. From a country festival, to a friends BBQ and Pool Party, to different beaches, all my 4th of July happenings are truly independent.

My list of things I need to get for future beach visits:
-Snorkeling gear
-Floating equipment
-Better sun screen
-Beach ball
-Football
-Jet Ski =P
-Yacht  =P

A Letter To My Friends at Google

Dear Google,

I do not appreciate you handing over information about me that should be PRIVATE to Viacom along with millions of other 82 million Americans, who watched 4.1 billion clips in just April. You should have just dumped the information of all your users tracks, and have really protected their privacy, instead of waiting for a situation like this, where now there is a possibility that lawyers and law enforcement will be able to connect IP addresses to users and find out who is watching what and then proceed to many, many lawsuits and other problems for people. You say you're going to try to protect people's information, but I don't see how that is possible when you were ordered to provide names and IP addresses of all users who have seen videos. I no longer trust Google or my YouTube account, or YouTube period. I don't wish to associate with you any longer and will find means to stop this horrible relationship that will now begin to end.

You suck,

Carlos Hernandez

Someone once told me that Tampa Bay is not constructed with easy transportation in mind. People just lay roads wherever they want, without any good city planning. They weren't lying.

Today I ventured into the depths of Tampa to look around and see who was hiring. Unfortunately, I missed the turn I needed to make, and thought to myself...no problem, just go right on the next street and you should be able to reach the street you were trying to get to, most streets are connected around here...WRONG. The road went into a home community and had all these winding roads and turns until I had absolutely no clue where I was. I eventually found myself by a Water Plant and a DEAD END. Time to turn around.

However, when I went back, I got majorly confused as to how to get back and ending up driving for a very long time, spanning some urban ghetto, until I finally somehow, by the power of luck, landed on the road that leads to my house, which I might say is about thirty minutes from there. So much for THAT.

Anyway, this year really hasn't been good for my Xanga. I almost feel bad for all the lack of attention it gets from me. I spend more time with Video Game nerds than this. Even YouTube gets more love. I've seen 5,130 videos since June 2006. My Xanga posts can't even come close. It's partly because my life has become pretty uninteresting and my creativity level is pretty low.

Yesterday I pulled out my Sega Dreamcast and hooked it up. I forgot how fun it was to play that thing. Sadly most of my video game systems are getting too old and are starting to need repairs. =[

Movies and Dinner

So I've had a very family-oriented weekend. My sister's boyfriend turned thirty four, so we did all kinds of things for his birthday. Today my sister cooked dinner, which was super bad for my latest goal to get more in shape, but I guess I'll just have to work that much harder tomorrow because of it.

I saw three movies at her house.

Evan Almighty: I've been meaning to watch this movie, but had a hard time actually catching it on television. I finally saw it today, and it was alright. I thought the lady who works under Evan was hilarious. Also on the day the flood is suppose to come, the guy who says "Well there's no flood...AWKWARD" was funny as well. Overall, worth my time but nothing amazing.

The Last Kiss: I was confused at first about what this movie was supposed to be about. I don't think the main character really understands what love is, and even though he went through all that stuff to get back together with his girlfriend, it didn't seem to make him seem like he learned anything, though it was funny to watch him suffer. This movie is one of those growing up best guy friends movies (like American Pie).

Georgia Rule: I really didn't think Lindsey Lohan still had some good acting left in her, but she pulled it off. The movie was entertaining and had some interesting moments. You can tell that Lindsey calls from personal Hollywood experiences to apply in this small town story.

Next week is 4th of July. =]
