13 Reading Challenges I have participated in and/or completed (mostly participated in; I don't complete everything I start...surprise, surprise! But today is a positive day. French roast coffee, a slow morning, and online browsing...self-nurturing for now. I'll accomplish something that Chaplain Hubby can actually see today, I promise!):

    1. Spring Reading Thing 2007; I finished 3 of the 6, and the other 3 I actually started.
    2. Spring Reading Thing 2008: chose 6 + 3 alternates; finished 6 books. Completed!
    3. Summer Challenge 2007: finished 9 of the 11 books I listed. Plus, since I'd listed the first two Yada Yada books, I also eventually read the entire series that summer. So it's all good. Completed.
    4. Summer Challenge 2008: still working on. I've read 5 of the 6 books, plus 2 of the 3 alternates.
    5. TBR 2007: finished 9 of the original 12; I read several alternate selections though, so I count this one as completed. This was my first big challenge, I think.
    6. TBR 2008: I've read 7 of 12 so far.
    7. Paperback Challenge 2008: finished 5 and begun 2 others of the 12 chosen, so far.
    8. Foundational Faith Challenge : I have not even started. *sigh* Sorry Leann! I don't read nonfiction quickly.
    9. Chunkster Challenge: I have started 3 of the 4 books chosen. Gave up on one because it was boring. Am halfway through the other two. The thing about these books is that to sustain the chunkiness of the work, the subject matter is heavy. This makes it tough to finish, when the going gets tough. Working on it, though, Dana :)
    10. Nattie Challenge: Beg, Borrow, Steal: did not finish yet. I should take this book on vacation!
    11. Thinking of Nat Challenge: completed. This was my very fun and random giveaway of one of Nattie's favorite books, Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons.
    12. Nattie Challenge: Mommy Challenge: completed.
    13. Something About Me Challenge: I did not finish this one, but it was certainly one of the most intriguing concepts and one of the most fun to participate in. I chose 9 books, completed 4, and began 2 more.

So there you have it. Sadly, there are others I'm currently signed up for, but since it looks like I won't finish them all, I won't list them here. I had to cut back on challenges, because it was so stinkin' discouraging to start and not finish them. The whole idea is to challenge and encourage, not to depress and discourage.

  • I love the smell of paper in the morning.

(Yeah, I know the real movie line is "napalm," but really, who wants that?)

So...yesterday afternoon I went to Target and Wal-mart to buy back to school supplies. There's few things I love more than blank notebooks and pens and pencils.

Our Wal-mart was annoyingly out of the five cent spiral notebooks. (grumble) I'll have to go back later.

I was reminded of the opening scenes of You've Got Mail, with the bouquets of sharpened pencils...

Now for Pattie's list for July 11:

    * Phantom Las Vegas!!!!!!!!!!! It was truly amazing. (And the added blessing of incredible seats at a great discount, thanks to a cast member who goes to church with my sister's inlaws, well, it was wonderful!)
    * Paris Las Vegas, just walking through made me happy!
    * Spending lots of time with my sister, talking without interruption (well, some, but not like when I'm on the phone at home and my girls talk to me or the dog barks or whatever).
    * Coming home after being away. Nothing like it.
    * Anticipating more fun times ahead in July!
    * Vosges. What a fun place! Pricey, yes, but who can beat free samples of anything we wanted to try, and fun saleswomen???
