Oh, what a year it has been!

Sorry to take so long to update.  Part of me has been dreading updating because it would force me to deal with things that I would rather avoid.  Most of you know  that my father had a heart attack the night of my 21st birthday and he passed away eight days later.  Who would have thought that that afternoon would be the last time I talk to my dad?!!  I can't thank everyone enough for their thoughts and prayers.  Let me just say that I have the most amazing roommates ever, Jenn, Sarah and Tolie!!!!!  These girls helped out during such a major crisis in my life.  Jenn and Tolie packed snacks and stuff for Sarah and I for our trip to Beaumont that night.  Sarah drove me home even though she was just about to get into bed and skipped class for a week to stay at the hospital with me.  Jenn ran around campus completeing errands and taking on the task of updating my professors about what was going on.  Tolie missed class and drove the gang to Beaumont so they could be at the funeral with me.  Sarah, Cherry, Kitty, Jenn and Tolie came to the funeral.  Shawn and Patty drove down for the funeral as well.  Jenn ended up spending her 21st birthday with me that weekend to ride back with me as I drove back to school. My friends from church were up at the hospital the whole time and one friend, Laura, drove in from Dallas for the funeral.  Even now as I write this I'm teary-eyed because of what a blessing everyone was in my life at that time.

During this tragic time, my brother and I were able to spend so much time together.  He is fifteen years older than me, so we've never really been able to spend a lot of time together.  It was really nice spending two weeks together talking and reflecting on the past.  It's been a hard semester because I'm having trouble focusing on things.

Wow it's been a long time!!

So I ended up not going to Chicago because my grandmother became really ill.  Thanksgiving was fun with the family and I was able to go out with my cousins.

The last three weeks before before school was over was crazy.  We had a crisis at work that lasted for two weeks and in between that time I was really sick with allergies.  We had a Christmas party at the apartment.  We ate really delicious and evil desserts that Jenn and Kitty made for the party.  I made it through finals and took Keri and Sarah to Beaumont.

That Friday, Keri and I started our journey to Dallas and I dropped her off at the airport and I headed to Denton. My cousin graduated from UNT with a B.A. IN English-Creative Writing.  Friday night, we headed over to the hotel where our family members were staying and played with baby Lucas.  Saturday was her graduation and they made homemade gumbo for lunch that day.  Celia, Justin, Charissa and I ate at Taco Cabana and just talked for a while.  Sunday was the journey back home with stuff from Celia's house.

Monday I worked and had a consultation with a surgeon to  have my wisdom teeth taken out and my dad had knee surgery.  By Thursday, my dad came home from the hospital and I had three wisdom teeth pulled.  Most people have four, but not me.  It was a blessing though because it's cheaper!  Friday, my grandmother was finally able to come home after six weeks of being in the hospital and physical therapy.

So it's been awhile since I have posted on Xanga!

Last week, I took a test that I thought I had failed, but it turns out that I actually passed!!!!!  I am now a Student Government Association senator.  If you have any ideas to improve the campus or campus life let me know.  Homecoming was this past weekend and I had fun with Sarah, Natalie, Kitty and Cherry.  Cherry and I had a history discussion before the parade started Saturday morning.  Saturday afternoon we introduced the girls to my favorite store, TARGET!!  We drove back to Marshall and ate dinner at Jalepeno Tree.  My roomate got engaged last week after we got back from taking Kitty and Cherry trick-o-treating.  I found out on the internet*so sad:(

I leave for Chicago, IL next weekend for Model United Nations again.  I feel really unprepared, but that's okay because we will be ready in time.  I get to register for classes next week.  I'm taking all history classes and three of them are with Mr. Hoover.   Well that's all I can think for now!

I'm sorry it has taken so long to update.  Since my last post many things have happened.  I finished up an awesome week with my ETBU101 group.  I enjoyed myself so much getting to know these wonderful people.  Who knows how many times I played Mafia that week??!!  Sarah and I went and saw Step Up during ETBU101 training week.  It is a great movie and Channing Tatum is really hot!!

My cousin, Charissa, went into labor August 29 and gave birth to preemie, Lucas Andrew.  He is so adorable and doing very well for being 6 and a half weeks early.  I enjoyed getting to see him at the hospital.  My mom gave Patricia her old car and it is now the Patty Wagon.  Patricia and Shawn are getting married in March so now we are in full force helping with wedding plans.

We are moving into the new clinic this weekend so that should be fun.  It is so nice in there and it is brand new.  Classes are going well.  I really enjoy the new History professors, Mr. and Mrs. Hoover.  The classes I'm taking all build on top of each other and connect beautifully.  Model United Nations is starting up again and we have a great group going.  I'm now heading up Political Awareness Society.

Prayer Request:  My cousin, Charissa, is pregnant and having a complication that demands mandatory bed rest at the hospital for the remainder of her pregnancy.  She has about eight weeks left before her boy is due to arrive. Please keep her, her husband and their unborn child in your prayers.

Good news!! We have found a way to make our schedule at the clinic work so everyone can get the hours they need.  I have moved into the dorms and have started unpacking.  There have been a lot of bumps in the road this past week.  It really is sad how somethings ended up and some have yet to work themselves out.

The history nerd in me is coming out as I watch the "Into the West" mini-series on DVD.
