www.crossfit.com,  and  www.gymjones.com

that's where my inspiration for these workouts is from.

sorta limited in what i can do here.  all i have is a one adjustable dumbbell   since all my workout stuff is in VA.  but, today i'm doing 5 sets of 15 reps of 4 different exercises as fast as i can.  they're not normal, so i won't even bother explaining them right now.  then hopefully bike to the park later.  can't wait to get to richmond so i can work out like i want to.

edit:  i did 4 sets of 12 reps of 5 different exercises in about 20 minutes.  and i'm still shaking.

something new

So it's been 2 months since I did any real running, and even that was sort of a joke... my knee is still having issues when I run more than a couple of miles, so it's been frustrating.  I bought a rode bike, and I've been riding a lot, but the weather in columbus is bulshit, so not as often as I'd like to.

I started a new type of workouts a few weeks back.  Normally, I've always just done traditional lifting with running and the occasional game of basketball or bike ride, and I've always been happy with the results.  But I'm open to new ideas, and I stumbled across this program that's pretty much a different set of exercises every session done at high intensity; it mixes olympic type lifts with whole body movements... anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour pretty much leaves you exhausted and shaking at the end, but it feels amazing.  Its a high intensity, anaerobic workout...

This sounds a bit like an infomercial, and I've only just started doing them, so I'm still kind of cautious.  It doesn't really mix well with what I've learned as the 'ideal workout' in my exercise phys classes, but what we learned was more of a watered down version for your average, overweight, unmotivated vegetable-like american in front of their TV.  I'm just tired of the 3 sets of 8 reps with 2 minutes of rest, etc.  I'll give this a few months and see where it leads.  Not going to substitute it for aerobic exercise, but it'll take the place of most of my traditional lifting.  If nothing else, I'm more excited to work out than I've been in a while.

Just for an example, today I did,

-pushups (chest touched the floor or it didn't count)
-situps (feet flat on the floor and hands behind head or it didnt' count)
-dumbbell swings (an exercise I just learned)
-box jumps (not sure how high it was, but it was killer)

in order, i did sets of 21 (of each exercise), 18, 15, 12, 9, 6, and 3 as fast as I could with good form.  I finished in 21:30, and laid on the floor for the next couple minutes trying to catch my breath.  it was fun and it felt like i had just finished a track practice (way back when).  Probably not that difficult of a workout for someone in the army or a police officer or someone like that... but to someone like me it was killer.  can't wait for the next one.

back! (sort of)

ran 800's on tuesday.  i think it was 3:13, 3:04, 3:00, and 2:58 or something like that.

on wednesday, i ran a mile in 6:46, and then rested, and ran a second mile in 6:35.

On thursday, i ran 800's.  times were 3:04, 2:56, 3:00, and 3:05... or something close to those.

so i'm back up and running for now.  i have to take it a little easier at first, to make sure my joints will hold up.  but it's good to be running again...

this isn't going very well... i fell apart over break, and haven't gotten it back together.

my ankle is still sore, and my knee is really bothering me (IT band problems i think), so i'm going to wait it out for a while, and just bike and lift until i'm sure i'm good to go.  i did about 8 miles last week total, felt pretty slow every time, but right now i'm just mostly concerned with losing some weight/fat, and getting my legs healthy again.

gotta stop putting this off.
