Last post of the semester!

I forgot to post when I got back last night... oops. Oh well. The semester is ALMOST over and we can all get some rest.

We got another gig, for tonight. My old dance teacher called the other day and asked if we could come play/jam at a party she's having. We're playing outside, and I suspect it'll be a little chilly. Fortunately it's warmer today than it has been.

My computer crashed the other day, so I haven't had a chance to update the web site. Someday...!

By the way, while this is the official last post of this semester, I may still use this blog from time to time. You can catch me on my regular blog too.

Spinner's, not Sinner's

I was sick, but Daddy took Jesse and Virginia to Spinner's Grill on Wednesday for their open mic night. Daddy tends to forget the name of the place (especially since there's another similar restaurant called "Skipper's", which I believe also has an open mic night) and calls it anything from "Sinner's" to "Stinker's". Anyway, I don't know how it came about, but there's the possibility of us doing a show there some Saturday night in January. We'd better straighten up; we're starting to get out of practice after all these weeks of luxury.

That's really all I have to say at the moment... I'm still sick, and while my throat doesn't feel like it's trying to throttle me anymore, it does feel very, very strained. Maybe I'll actually be able to get enough sleep over Christmas.

Back home

Well, I hope all of you had a happy Thanksgiving. We went to our grandmother's in South Carolina and ate an abundance of good food.

While there aren't a whole lot of bluegrass festivals going this time of year (a few, but not many), you should still keep your eye out for one band: The Wells Family. This family band does a really great job, not only playing together as a family, but playing excellently. I love their sound. You can hear some clips of theirs at their MySpace page.

I hope you all enjoyed your break!

Stagnation

Now that we're not doing anything as a band for the moment, I'm having a hard time coming up with music-related things to write.

Well, I can always put in a plug for PreddyFest. Anyone who's lives around here knows about it, but I'm always amazed by the people who say they keep meaning to go but "never get around to it". Trust me, it's not something to "get around to", it's something to make sure you plan around. We've done just that for the last two years and don't intend to stop any time soon. This past summer had some really great bands, like Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Nothin' Fancy, and Grasstowne.

I don't know what bands Rodney has lined up for this coming PreddyFest, but the date has been changed from the first weekend in August to the first weekend in June (that's the 5th, 6th, and 7th). The heat was just too much.

Sickness = blah

Apparently we were supposed to play at a nursing home on Monday, and I'd forgotten. We did play, but I was too sick to sing, and so was Virginia. Fun, huh? Yeah. Now that we're almost over these colds, there's some stomach bug tearing through the house and wreaking havoc. I hope I don't get it, because that would be majorly inconvenient (yes, I know "majorly" isn't a word).

Musical tidbit: Check out Banjo Hangout and Fiddle Hangout. Both run by Eric Schlange, they're pretty good hotspots for things banjo/fiddle related. Monthly drawings, forums, classifieds, events pages, etc. If you're at all interested in these instruments, these sites could be a potential resource for networking and such. The classifieds have other instruments sometimes too.
