  • Checking In

My life has changed dramatically for the better since Feb 1st.  I have a different job with same company but a new manager and new accounts.  Management style is totally opposite my previous manager which suits my style just fine.  I now work from home all the time.  No more commute on that South Shore line which is notoriously late most of the time and not a pleasant ride.  No more noisy teammates constantly chattering and frequently asking me questions they could research for themselves.  And best of all, no more controlling micro-manager.  I really love it!  I am VERY fortunate.

Political scene is still in turmoil and looks to remain that way till elections and even afterwards.  Oh well, it makes life interesting but sometimes it is best to tune out the politics.

My favorite TV show, Moonlight, is not on anymore but I am hoping they will bring it back this Fall.

I'm gradually preparing for the big trip in April to Disneyworld with husband, daughter and two grandchildren! I am almost as excited about it as the grandkids are!

I completely reloaded everything on this laptop yesterday and it took several hours.  I didn't know what I was doing and was trying to follow the directions.  It had become notoriously slow and would take forever to load and my favorite game, Bejeweled, had become very difficult to play.  So I got it all working again, added a virus scan, McAfee, and got Bejeweled working better than ever.  So all is well for now.  No new laptop needed yet.

I can't wait for the sun and warm weather!

  • Just Some Thoughts

Why is it that women are our their worst enemies?  We don't stick together but would rather pick each other apart. Many of you may think this doesn't apply to you and maybe it doesn't.  In the workplace I see women who treat each ok when they believe they are on an equal level or that the person can do something to benefit them but all that changes in a competitive environment.  They can become vindictive, back stabbing, conniving and just plain mean.  Women are at a definite disadvantage when competing against men because as you all know, it is still a man's world.  How many of you have had a woman manager/boss that you really thought was excellent?  I have to admit that I've had few if any women who were excellent managers.  I've had some good ones but I'd rather have a man as a manager. Men as a general rule don't nit-pick, micro-manage and have 10,000 rules for you to follow. They generally just want you to manage your own work, do your job and make him look good.  I am sure there are some excellent women leaders out there but they rarely take the opportunity to do the leading. Most of the time it is easier to sit back and take what is dished out to us rather than stand up and state our opinion.  Sometimes it is smarter to keep your mouth shut but not always. Perhaps if we learned how to uplift and encourage each other, be tough when needed and most of all to stick together, there would be more women leaders.

  • Vacation in Texas

We spent two weeks in Texas and I loved it.  We went to South Padre Island for three days and had a room right on the beach so we could leave the balcony door open and hear the waves all night long. It was so loud that it blocked out my husband's snoring and I slept very well.  Then we went to Galveston and stayed for one week. Weather was wonderful compared to Chicago area! I really hated to leave.
