  • Friends of the Zoo

    Dear Kristen,

We’re now Friends of the Zoo! We figured that since we enjoy going to the zoo so much, we might as well just buy the pass so that we don’t have to wait for the corporate zoo pass to be ready. And in a period of 1 month, we’ve visited it 3 times already!

Last Sunday, when we were at the zoo… you had your first big girl fall! Okay, what do I mean by this…

We were walking at the zoo at you tripped on my slipper. Luckily Grandma was holding onto your hand and she pulled you up in time so all you had were tiny abrasion marks from the road.

You started to scrunch your face and telling everyone it was painful. Then you cried a little but calmed down really quick. Then you just kept telling everyone that you fell and it was painful. So much like a big girl right?

What got Mummy really amused was that you went to tell other people the days after about the fall! On Monday, when I got back from work, Auntie Belle asked me if we went to the zoo. Surprised, I asked her how she knew. She told me that Kristen told her that she fell at the zoo and it was painful.

You’ve grown up! You’re able to repeat stories now!

It’s really cute how you tenderly touch your little bruise and tell me that it’s “painful at the zoo”.

Here you are at one of the outings at the Outback section:

    Mummy

  • The “I Don’t Like School Phase”

    Dear Kristen,

For the few days after Chinese New Year, you refused to go to school. You whined, cried and gave the teachers quite a hard time too! But… after a few days, the teachers wrote in the communication book that you stopped crying. Haha… and true enough, the next few days you wanted to go to school again.

And.. now… you have learnt something naughty in school too. You would stick out your tongue and wave your fingers at the side of your cheek! Gasp! Yes.. and you know the right moments to do it too. You did it this morning when you asked Grandma to make you milk even though Mummy volunteered to do it. When Grandma left the room to make the milk… you made your monkey face at me!

I tried hard not to smile and spanked your backside but you didn’t care. You just found it really funny.

    Love,
    Mummy

  • Gong Xi Fa Cai!

    Dear Kristen,

It’s the Chinese New Year again! This year is the year of the Ox… or rather… Cow.

This year I decided to do away with the traditional chinese cheongsam for you as you hated it last year. I think the materials for cheongsam tend to be stiff and stuffy… So, I just got for you lots of comfy dresses which I knew you would love to wear.

Here you are singing the Gong Xi Gong Xi song for everyone to hear. You know what, we didn’t know that you knew this song already and we’re guessing that you even know the lyrics although we can’t quite catch it, as we don’t know the lyrics ourselves. But you surprised us by singing it!!! You must have learnt this in school… Clever girl! Okay, you sang it pretty low and quietly, so must listen hard!

And yes, the all important part of Chinese New Year… How to say Gong Xi Gong Xi… and how to ask for Ang pow!

All in all… this year you were pretty well behaved during Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year Eve – At the reunion dinner, you fell asleep while eating because you did not sleep the whole day. So we put you on the couch but left quickly after dinner because the lights of the living room were switched off because we wanted you to sleep in the dark. Without wanting to inconvenience everyone, we quickly left so that you could sleep comfortably at home. Mummy and Daddy spent the night watching TV and surfing the internet. Funniest part was we didn’t even realise it was past 12 till a few minutes later.

Chinese New Year, Day 1 – After sleeping at around 8plus the night before, you woke up at about 4.50am!!! You were very cooperative most of the day, but by lunch time you were so tired you fell asleep in the car. Ended up taking your nap at Lau Kim’s place and had an extremely late lunch after that. Fortunately, you fell asleep at the usual 10 plus timing. You gradually warmed up to everyone… But only when there’s not many people around.

Chinese New Year, Day 2 – We spent the morning lazing around the house and went to the playground with you where you went up and down the slides… too many times. You warmed up a little more this time and allowed other people to bring you around. Good girl. Mummy is very pleased. I think… I need to socialise you more.

  • Singing – Jesus Loves the Little Children

    Dear Kristen,

You love to sing. When you’re at ease… or when you think no one is watching… When your favourite songs are playing on the radio… You sing.

I finally managed to get a recording of you singing with the song. I think you cooperated partly because you wanted to see a video of yourself singing too. We had to restart the song on the radio because the first time around, Uncle Kelvin was talking in the car because he didn’t know we were recording. So this was the second take.

And why are you not in your car seat? Because the carseat was in Daddy’s car. This is Grandpa’s car.

  • Dear Kristen,

Earlier tonight, Mummy was showing Daddy a couple of dresses that she was thinking of letting you wear for a wedding that we’re attending this Saturday.

One was a dress that Mummy bought for you from Pumpkin Patch and one was this pretty long-sleeved dress from Uncle Berd & his girlfriend Wan Ting.

You walked over and said “I want this one”. Yes, a vote of confidence for Uncle Berd’s taste in dresses.

After taking your bath, while we were trying to get you in your PJs, you started kicking a fuss suddenly just as we were about to put on the PJs… You starting screaming and wailing that you “want that one”… At first I thought it was your school uniform as I was busy arranging your backpack for school tomorrow. Then I realised that it was the dress you wanted.

Thinking that you just wanted to try it on, Mummy let you wear it. You happily hugged and gave me a kiss for letting you wear it. You started parading around in your dress, letting the dress flow around you… THEN… you decided you wanted to sleep in it. You crawled happily under the bedcovers and started getting comfortable. Daddy said to let you be… and… NOW… you are fast asleep in a fancy dress tonight.
