Back when we were dating, I already new she's very picky with things she likes (that says something about me right? ) she'd go into a huge amount of details to find out what exactly she wants. Of course this translate to her rock shopping. As time goes by, her knowledge on diamonds grew so high that even our jeweler was impressed by her in-depth knowledge. (and of course she trained me pretty well too )

WWDC07 just finished, what do you guys think?

From Twitter to GoogleClick to Facebook f8 to Google Gear, it has been a very active quarter in the web2.0 world. However, if you are a geek and live in California, you probably hear new web2.0 startups everyday. So what makes me think this year is huge?

First - acquisitions. Big companies have been throwing out money like there's no tomorrow:

Google acquired DoubleClick for $3.1 billion, Adscape for $23 million, Feedburner for $100 million, Greenborder Technologies (undisclosed), Panomario (undisclosed)
DoubleClick acquired Tangozebra for $30 million
Microsoft acquired aQuantive for $6 billion
Yahoo acquired a 20% stake in Right Media Exchange
WPP acquired Real Media 24/7 for $649 million
Myspace acquired Photobucket for $250 million and Flektor for ~ $15 to $20 million
CBS acquired Last.fm for $280 million
eBay acquired StumbleUpon for $75 million

And these are the not the only ones, there are more out there but I won't bore you anymore with numbers and names.

Acquisitions for online ad companies has been crazy since Google bought DoubleClick. Now everyone wants a bigger piece of the pie, especially this pie is going to be growing bigger and bigger. And as corporations realise the size of population in the web2.0 world and how fast it is growing, I'm sure you'll see more web2.0 acquisitions like the last three bullet points.

Second - fast growing sites from Twitter to Facebook. People are spending more time everyday on the internet, and people are finding new ways to use online apps to help with their daily lives. I don't even want to know how many Google Maps mashups there are now, I'm sure if there's something no one has created using Google Maps with, someone is creating one as we speak. Google Apps has helped alot of small biz / startups to work without even seeing the faces of coworkers. Facebook has grown even bigger and better now with the third party app support (really makes me wanna join Facebook again....). Google and MS both have online 3D maps (here and here). This list is never ending since people will want to find new ways to use the web and they will.

Third - online apps competitors: Suns JavaFX, MicroSoft SilverLight and Adobe Apollo. All these three are used to create Rich Media Applications (RIAs). You can basically code with one of these and create similar web apps that we have now to run on your desktop. I think this will only help us end users, to have all these options and I hope this will also push developers and create better and crazier apps!

Fourth - working offline with online apps. Yesterday at Google Development Day announced Google Gear - an open source browser plugin that will enable developers to create offline web applications using JavaScript APIs. As a developer, youl be able to make an application with the assurance that it will work offline and online across browsers. And the first thing they incorporate it with is, of course, Google Reader!! Now I really have nothing bad to say about this RSS reader. Anyway, with this, hopefully we'll see more online apps that can be worked offline.

I'm sure I'm missing something out, but reading 300+ feeds on technology everyday is not easy. If you're interested in knowing more this sort of thing, you can always bookmark/subscribe my link blog. This is the top 5 list of why i love my gf

1. she's a geek like me - not just any kind of geek, but someone who's actually into the same geeky things - we can quote star wars, zoolander, scrubs, etc all day long

2. when i'm with her, my life feels full, i feel warm inside (feel free to go barf), and when i'm not with her, i feel empty inside (feel free to go barf again)

3. she's first person that has never doubted me and made me feel like i can accomplish anything

4. you know how people say couples with a lot of things in common is a bad thing cos they won't have much to talk about, but for us it's the total opposite, i love the fact that we have so many things in common like 80s music, mac, video games, etc

5. whenever i'm in a bad mood, she can somehow always find a way to shoot from the bottom of hell to the top of the heaven in half a second

don't hurt the web...
