  • 7 degrees of separation and all that.

We got the B back.  I always feel better when all my boys are home.  (OK.  I feel better for like 20 minutes until people start fighting, etc.)  I like having all my little chicks back in the nest.   I'll show you some pics from Mt. Hood tomorrow.  Guess who his roommate was?  Christie Brinkley's son Jack.  Nice kid, Henry said.  Total chick magnet.

  • Get this:  Grandma is on board with the assisted living facility.  She went out on an errand with Barb (her minder) and then stopped in and played bingo and she won.  Woo hoo!  Mom took her up there for lunch and Grandma decided it was good (she's a notoriously picky eater), so woo hoo, redux.  All the old people are friendly and want to know when she is moving in an how old she is.  She's a total people person (truly has never known a stranger in her life) so she's excited.  I hope she "passes" the assessment and doesn't get booted to the Memory Cottage right away.  Anyway, this makes me glad.  It's hard to get over that feeling that you're putting someone you love out to pasture.  Maybe things will be ok for a bit longer.

  • Boy #3 has decided to teach himself Spanish since he heard my uncle talking (re: his young son being fluent in mandarin & cantonese) and explaining that the young brain is so much more, what you would say....receptive? to learning another language.

Thus it was necessary to purchase a pocket phrase translation dictinary and spend the afternoon looking up phrases on freetranslation.com.

We had to look up a few phrases he's planning on using this week.  He wants to tell Salvador he's looking very nice today.  (Used mira hoy muy agradable).  He would also like to know what's for dinner.  (Que es para cenar).  He quickly learned he can aggravate Jacob by calling him tonto (fool!) and he also wants to learn to tell people not to sass him (no me replique).  See how much we've learned already?  If he pursues this with the same ferocity he attacked learning the piano with, I'm thinking he'll be having conversations by the time school starts.

Jacob is fond of saying, in German, "If you sass me one more time, I'll snap your neck like a twig.  (Wenn Sie sass mich noch eine Zeit, werde ich Ihren Hals wie ein Zweig schnappen).

I'm so proud.  We're like the United Nations over here.

Dudes.  Snowboarding on a glacier in July looks like this:

When not snowboarding you mgiht want to to skateboard your little head off here:

You know where they filmed The Shining?  Still one of the scariest movies of all time, if you ask me...

ANYWAY,  it's called Timberline Lodge and it's on Mt. Hood.  Here it is from behind, looking towards Mt. Stuart (I think.  Maybe Mt. Adams.  How would I know these things?)

    high cascade 061

I've been there before.  I still asked Thane "were you creeped out?" and he said "Of course not," because you see, it's the 75th Anniversary of when Roosevelt (or whoever) decided to build some of these great lodges in the west.  Yay, historical lodges and all that.

Must dash.  I have a quillion things to do.  We're going down on Tuesday (to partake in wholesome outdoor activities - ha) before we pick up The B. on Friday.  Whenever I say we're not going to do something you should automatically assume we are going to do that very thing.

  • Gnome themed charm bracelet.  Woot!  Soon to be gracing my oh so delicate wrist.  Kim rocks.

RESERVED FOR FP - Gnome Charm Bracelet

Molly the dog doesn't.  She jumped into the pool (which had the cover on) to try and retrieve a squishy water ball that technically belongs to the children, not her.  She ripped up the cover trying to get out of the pool.  She is a retriever, so I guess technically she was doing her job...but nobody had told her to go retrieve the squishy water ball that belongs to the children.  Hence, my annoyance.  How can I be annoyed with behavior that is purely instinctual in her?  Because I am a mean heartless woman who does not relish having to replace the pool cover.  That is how.

PS:  Early reports indicate that Henry B. is having a great time.
