Giving

It seems as if people (not all people) give during Christmas, not because they want to give, but because they believe that others will hold something against them if they don't. Hmm.

Can giving be an act of selfishness? I think so. What do you think?

Absolutly. You can give anything with a selfish motive......like loving someone, You can love a person with a motive that you'll be loved back. You're right on Kevy. I hope break is going well. Have an AWESOME winter quarter.....Lord willing, I will be up sometime for snow camp. God Bless

What about the Pharisees? They gave much, but only to be seen.... Whether it be time or money, I think some people give to God because they feel He'll hold it against them. Also, I believe anything not given out of love is ultimately not a gift at all.

sadly I think that people sometimes gives, because they are expected to they don't give from the heart. When you give from the heart expecting nothing in return that is the best gift, and you received back with there happiness.

you have a good point...never really thought of that before. my sister was actually saying something like that today in the kitchen while we were doing dishes. elaine had told emily not to waste her money on buying her friends gifts when her friends weren't going to buy her anything...hm...okay...anyways, yes...i think giving can be motivated by selfishness.

I think that giving gifts to friends and family out of "obligation" is a form of materialism. For more insight on this, read http://chrislogan.blogspot.com/2006_11_30_archive.html.
