i kind of feel like taking an identity that also reflects my "band" name - so, http://weblog.xanga.com/vampiredeer is it

this will remain up - it'll take awhile to set it all up but i am going to post something substantial tonight - all i really want to say right now is that it's time for a change - i feel like moving on in whatever ways are possible for me and although it's not real possible in my local life, there's no reason i can't do that online

i don't hang around here enough

just looking over this new private page - well, it's somewhat confusing, isn't it

work continues to be surprisingly dull and the lack of any real events is an odd change in my life, after having nearly 16 months of one damned thing after another - this is 2 months in a row that nothing's happened

i really need to kick the writing back into gear - i think i have time for it now - a lot of it is, i kind of feel like i took a look around one day and didn't know how i relate to this world around me or what to say about it, especially seeing as there are very few to listen

my previous answer has been just to please myself, but that only takes me so far - but in some way, i just needed a break from the writing - i was starting to feel repetitive and i needed to back off for awhile - i still feel like that may be true - i don't know - but it's more likely that i'm closer to the end of this stage than the beginning

still alive and well

and back to 40 hour weeks for awhile - i can't say i understand the logic behind what our bosses are doing and i'm not even sure they've thought it out - they didn't have enough people, now they have too many - they had too much product to deliver now they don't have enough

i think i've probably stayed away long enough - part of it was lack of time and energy and lack of desire - and not having much to say anyway - no real changes, just things seemingly getting back to normal

over the next month i plan to be working a lot on music

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

i'm alive and alright - as alright as i'm going to be working 68 hours a week - this is just insane - i don't know what i have to do to get a life - i think it's against company rules

the disgust i feel towards them just becomes greater - they screwed a lot of people in other locations by closing 3 plants all so we could have the dubious privilege of working 7 days a week trying to make up the shortfall - which we aren't managing to do

i'm working 1st shift these days, which is more agreeable with me, but 68 hour weeks are 68 hour weeks

i might even be working on thanksgiving day - all because some bright soul decided that they could make a little more money by working us to death - well, that's what they thought

unfortunately, they're losing money because the machines are breaking down and the people are tired, burned out and often don't give a damn

the stories i could tell - and i have a private journal where i do tell them - i don't think it's a wise idea to mention much

i'm making a ridiculous amount of money per week - i'm saving most of it and continuing to live on the 40 hour budget i had - when i do make a change, i'm going to have some back up to do it with

Saturday, October 13, 2007

i'm still around - work hasn't been too bad this week - it seems like changes might be happening there - i don't know - i kind of feel as if i'm approaching a point in my life where something's going to be different

one thing is that i can't really allow myself the luxury of worrying about what all these other people around me are going to do - getting involved in all their drama is just complicating things, so i try to step back from it - eventually, the company will be a certain way and it'll be predictable and then i can look at it and decide whether i want that or not

if it doesn't change, i DON'T want it - working 7 days a week is just not any kind of answer for me

Sunday, October 07, 2007

well, hey - went over to see my friend and he told me about the new site he's doing work at - a hospital - get this - at contractor orientation they told him and the other members of the crew that they would be sent off site and told not to come back ever if they smelled like smoke

not if they were caught smoking in the hospital

not if they were caught smoking outside the hospital

but even if they were in a restaurant and the smoke drifted on to them from the smoking section and made them smell like smoke

in fact, they specifically warned them that they would be wise to avoid smokers in public just in case

being a self-righteous idiot is much worse than smelling like smoke, i think

and these are the kind of people who are running our country these days - are you scared yet?

Sunday, September 30, 2007

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Bfq5kju627c

an exclusive scoop here - this is the michigan legislature trying desperately to balance the budget

Thursday, September 27, 2007

yesterday was another 12 hour day and i couldn't seem to come up with anything to say

i'm really starting to wonder about the people i work for - how is it possible that we run low on paper in the middle of the week and have to run at 1/3 capacity when we're way behind on our orders?

this is the 2nd time it's happened in the last month - it never happened before, although since nov or dec, things have been a little late

remember that we OWN the paper mill - and no, the mill wasn't down or anything like that - supposedly the first time it was because the railroad track was blocked by blown down trees

this time i haven't heard an answer - and it seems to be a straight out screw up

things just aren't working well anymore - and i have the feeling there's a lot of that going around

Tuesday, September 25, 2007

work was long and boring yesterday - 12 hours - and it's getting harder to care about it as i feel so burned out about it

i can't really understand why people think we would put up with these hours for any other reason but economic survival - but now i'm approaching one of the reasons why i felt like staying away from this blog for awhile and that's i was getting tired of listening to myself complain about it - it is worse than it's been, though

rumors float around insistently and i have no idea which ones will come to be

i wonder what it would take in this country for the little people to get a little power back - maybe tonight, i'll make some observations about that

Monday, September 24, 2007

feeling rather tired today - it's been 14 days in a row working for me and today i get a 12 hour shift - this is the way that i've been living lately - a day off every couple of weeks or so and frequent overtime

i have a vacation next week and will finally get to rest

basically what they did was to close 3 plants in the company and divide up the business between my plant and another one - that hasn't been working out too well - we're being worked to death so other people can be unemployed - and that's the way things seem to go these days - either you're working part time and not hanging on at all or you're working unconscionable hours as if you've dedicated your life to whatever trivial thing you're making

and management - they started complaining so they work 4 12 hour shifts and get 3 days off, unlike the rank and file who are working every damned day

in a way, it's our own damn fault for voting for the lousy contract that we had repeatedly voted down for 4 years - now what was the point of holding out that long and ending up settling for the same deal, minus 4 years worth of raises?

so people cravenly gave in and now they're being run over by the company - it just goes to show you that a union is only as strong as its membership

supposedly after having bought more plants, they're going to move the business around so we can operate on a 5 to 5 1/2 day basis - if things don't get better, i'll have to find another job - this is making my life impossible - i hardly get to see my daughter anymore

but things will continue on this way in this country as long as the rulers make sure that the "winners" outnumber the losers and the losers are controlled and pacified enough so they don't blow stuff up - i think they call this democracy
