Trickster

So, the other day my roomie tried to pull a fast one on me. Actually not tried, she did. She made decaf coffee instead of regular. I didn't realize until late that night after coming home from regular XA activities. I was wondering why I had such a headache that evening.

My Generation

I had a terrific weekend at our XA retreat.  There were great services, teachings, worship, and it was a time of growing closer to God and each other.  It was so encouraging to be a part of a gathering of 250 college students and campus ministers who are passionate about living their lives for Jesus Christ.  It's simultaneously exhausting and refreshing.  I came back filled with hope for my generation.  If there are more people across the nation like the people I just spent the weekend with(and I believe there are!) we will quite literally change the world!  Now that it's ended I took time today to sleep in and get caught up on the news since we were literally in the boonies with hardly any connection to the outside world.  Maybe that wasn't such a good idea because after the news I saw today my overflowing hope and excitement is at risk of being wiped away.  I saw a breaking news story that actor Heath Ledger, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heath_ledger
, has died.  I'm a little bit surprised at how much this has affected me.  Maybe it's because just one week ago actor Brad Renfro, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Renfro, died as well.  I was a big fan of both of these actors.  Heath starred in movies 10 Things I Hate About You, The Patriot, A Knights Tale, and was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Brokeback Mountain.  Brad Renfro was lesser known.  He got his start early with his role in John Grisham's The Client.  My sisters and I loved him for his role as Huck Finn in the movie Tom and Huck with Jonathan Taylor Thomas.  After an early start he fell from the spotlight except for his off screen drug habit and his continual run-ins with the law.  Apparently both these young actors, Heath was 28 and Brad was 25, died in drug-related deaths.  It is obvious that both of these young men of my generation could not find peace and fulfillment in their lives.  They turned to drugs maybe due to the pressure of being in the spotlight or because in the places they thought they would find success and happiness they were unsatisfied and looking for more.  I don't know the issues these men faced, but I was just overwhelmed with the thought of how many people in the world are going through similar situations and are on the verge of death.  I have to reassure myself that what I'm doing is not futile. The calling that I have to reach out to college students and young adults is greater now than ever before.  People are filled with hopelessness.  If only these young men would have sought fulfillment in Jesus Christ instead of drugs.  I need to be more active, work harder, love more, pray constantly, teach, train, disciple, the list goes on and on.   The tragedy of these young men's lives reiterates the need of the call to rise up and make the most of every opportunity because you never know if you'll get another.

So I never thought I would see the day when people would talk about a Missouri football national championship and actually be serious about it.

At a Loss

I just don't know what to do with myself.  I live in LA and it is hot.  Since I live in LA I do not have AC.  I have several things that I need to do as far as planning and preparing XA/ISF stuff, but I just want to get outa here.  I can't wait until tomorrow.  The heat wave is supposed to end.  Yippee!
