Queso Fundito!

Guess who had a WHOLE DAY OFF on Monday...go ahead.....GUESS!

It was me! I went over to Deborah's to clean and she thought it was too beautiful of a day to spend cleaning so we thought we might go to the zoo instead.

Before the zoo lunch would be in order. No sense seeing lions and tigers and bears on an empty stomach. We headed to Cafe Cocina Centro in Midtown Sacramento.

What do you have with mexican food? Lemonade? NO! Ice Tea? NO!

You have margaritas.

Despite Deborah's "NO NO NO, I NEVER drink in the middle of the day", we did enjoy an icey cold margarita.

I need to buy a frightening bunny eared doll, where do I go? Where can I find a fake poodle? Where do you go if you need four foot cats?

We thought we should investigate an antique store a couple of blocks down that Deborah frequents in her search for perfect antiques and gifts for her shop in Davis. This place was filled to the brim with everything you do not need and never knew you did.

Nothing says day off like pig riding and drinking!

(this place had all the amenities!)

Deborah found this amazing pair of earrings!

Actually they are gilded tiered chandeliers. Something that belongs at the Liberace Museum in Vegas. I hit a couple of fantastic sales at a boutique and a shoe store on J Street.

Exactly the place to go if you need a neon skirt, fish nets and 5" platfrom lace up boots

I took Deborah to this amazing stripper (and drag queen) store called Previews. They carry a pretty extensive line of naughty outfits and outlandish shoes as well as vintage and used clothes. We had a ball pulling out dresses and outfits from years gone by. We realized that we were never going to make it to the zoo. More margarita's were in order.

It is all part of your freaky dream!

We hit another vintage clothing and furniture shop called Bows and Arrows that had fantastic appliances, phonographs and even old tv's from the 50 and 60's. It was during this vintage clothing epiphany (and our third margarita kicking in) that we decided on a party for this summer. The theme would be BAD JUMPSUITS! Oh, don't lie to me, you had one. You only hope there is no photographic evidence. HA!

This is inside a little hideaway restaurant we found called B & L's

We continued kicking around Midtown. Went to a gaybar for a perfect margarita. Passed by a restaurant called B & L's that was not open but they let us come in and check out the menu and interior anyway. We have to go back. The place looks wonderful and the menu is mouth watering.

IMG_0018-1.jpg The cutest shop in MIdtown, Le Petit Paris picture by cassi1000

Le Petit Paris on 19th Street in Midtown Sacramento

We entered a wonderful gift and dessert shop called Le Petit Paris. Check out that couch. The couple who owned it transformed the space into a cozy vintage Paris gift nook. One side was a long marble counter with a shiny dessert case filled with decadent pastries and an espresso menu.

The other side was jewelry, clothing, childrens items and gifts with a cozy markety Parisian touch. We chatted up the owners. The walls covered in gorgeous fabrics and all the victorian furniture was redone and painted in that wild silver paint. They did all the work themselves. Their six year old daughter was as friendly and helpful as any sales person. She me took (by the hand, she melted my heart) on a tour behind the dessert counter and drew a picture of a flower and a star for me to keep. I was completely charmed and I will be back.

Deborah and I bought each other girly girl day necklaces. Hers was a Friends necklace with two girls in mouse suits on one side of it and Girly Girl on the other, it had a little crown charm dangling off of it. Mine was titled "Fun Queen" on one side and on the other is read "Drinking and laughing, drinking and laughing. That was all we did." Mine had a little margarita glass dangling off of it. Perfect!

Sums up our girly girl day off.

We ended up at Zocala's for more mexican food and guess what! More margaritas. What? More? We were getting tired so we had just the one with dinner.....And look, we met perfect men to go with our perfect boobs. Which, after all those margaritas, we were inclined to display. We all lived happily ever after...

Then I woke up and cleaned two houses today. HA! Back to the gallery tomorrow. I hope all you mom's had a lovely mom's day. My kids remembered to call me. And further more - have a happy happy HUMP DAY!

Make it a great HUMP DAY!

A Day

"There is no greater joy nor greater reward than to make a fundamental difference in someone's life. "— Anonymous

It does not matter how you do it, where you do it or why. I think that is what these Mom and Dad's days are about.

Happy Day to you all who make a difference.

Late to Bed, Early to Rise....what does this make me? Tired.

But I could not miss this show. My kids are heading out for three week tour on Friday that takes them as far as Colorado. This will be pretty much a show in a different town each night. I think they will have a great time.

The both played a show in Sacramento and I thought I better go out to see it since I will not see them for awhile. I have not seen my sons band play in public since they added their bass player. I have heard them practice, but a show is a different animal. I was excited to see them perform. My friend Bogden agreed to meet up too, it always good to have a buddy to sit with.

My daughter, Jocelyn, now on tour

Fortunately for me, both the kids bands were first and second. I felt slightly bad leaving before hearing the other two bands but come on, I am old! It is past my bed time as it is.

Alas, alak, Alaska

Joc's band, "Alas, alak Alaska" was fantastic. Their best show yet, I think. My son sat in on drums and they have added an additional girl for back up vocals and misc instruments. Their sound was amazing. Just a big wow. Her voice and guitar could not have been better.

All my favorite kids were there. I gave them all hugs, I would not be seeing them until Joc was home, I figure. We were all impressed with AAA's set.

Boyd and Michael

My boys, that is what I call my son and his band, "Afternoon Brother", took the stage with little todo. They just stormed right into their set. All I can do is compare them to really loud Frank Zappa, electric guitar jazz fusion and a band I remember from the old days called the Residents. They are individually very very good musicians. In fact a review of an earlier performance before they added, Boyd, their bassist, remarked that this is the sound you hear when someone is so good at their instrument they they have to invent new things to do. Their bassist adds this whole other cohesive quality to their music. These guys take sound and stretch it then tear it then put it back together again in a layer of noise, music, melody and poetry. Really, they are incredible. I was smiling the entire show. They blew me away. In a loud and mind blowing way. I needed exactly that.

Jammin' Jonno

I am heading to bed but I thought I would post this and the pictures I took. My camera is taking a dump but the photos are interesting.....I wonder if my memory card is bad or if it is the camera.

Hope your week is going well. Mine is upsy downsy and all aroundsy.

I take it back

Lets see, my previous blog was filled with error and exaggeration.

Probably due to my hangover. First off, Tom Waits is touring in June and July. He will be in Knoxville, Tennessee not Nashville. I do not know where I saw that erroneous info. He will be in Phoenix AZ the 16th and 17th of June. That is a road trip away. I think I would like to go. I need to find a road trip partner to go with. My daughter cannot because she has a show on one of those nights and would not be home in time.

And I better plan quick because he will sell out.

This movie keeps you at the edge of your seat until the very end

I watched a great film this evening, "No Country for Old Men". I really liked it. Those Cohen brothers are great. My favorite movie so far this year is still "Darjeeling Limited". I think that living with a house full of boys has something to do with that. (The film is about three bothers who are dealing with the loss of their dad, kind of, it is a Wes Anderson film, so kind of is key).

I could not do it without her!

My daughter and I hung out today. We cleaned two houses. I cleaned two yesterday by myself. She will be on tour for the next three weeks, I am going to miss her help tremendously.

Hope your hump day is wholesome.

Busy busy busy

I keep saying to myself that "THIS IS THE NIGHT THAT I GO TO BED EARLY" but things come up.

This past weekend I had a date. You know me, a rolling stone gathers no moss. No moss on me.

Deborah was over last night and we were perusing the yahoo personal ads. Always entertaining.

We celebrated Cinco de Mayo with home made guacamole and margaritas. All of my boys came home after a couple of days in the bay area, we celebrated together. Well, Deborah and I celebrated and they tolerated us. They are sweet like that. Putting up with us marinated, cackling old ladies.

Michael scored a kukui nut necklace

We have been cleaning Deborah's place and I always end up with a bag of stuff when I leave. She gave the boys some wild jewelry and some Kitten Glitter. What ever that is. They love it.

Hey, Tom Waits is putting together a tour and not doing a single California show. What is that about? He lives here. I have heard that he lives near me. Petaluma or Woodland or something like that. I checked his tour schedule and not a single date even close to California. If he comes to your town GO SEE HIM. I think I want to fly to Nashville in August to see him. My aunt and uncle live there and I could probably stay a couple of days for free. I am going to try to find someone to go with me.

That about covers it. I work nonstop. I had last Wednsday off but I don't think I have another day off in forever. No big plans.

Hey, have a great Seis de Mayo. I don't think this day includes tequila but you never know.
