Interests: 28. "Resolved, to study the Scriptures so steadily, constantly and frequently, as that I may find, and plainly perceive myself to grow in the knowledge of the same." - Jonathan Edwards Expertise: Nothing; unless the Word does its work, there is nothing I do well.
Luther in one of his sermons concerning the progress of the Reformation:
"I simply taught, preached, wrote God's Word; otherwise I did nothing. And then, while I slept... the Word so greatly weakened the papacy that never a prince or emperor did such damage to it. I did nothing. The Word did it all." - Martin Luther.

| Joyful ServiceThis t4g 2008 message by CJ Mahaney has greatly impacted my life.
CJ's Message or you can go to t4g.org/08/media and click on Session VIII. Never realized before that it is possible to serve the Lord faithfully, but not joyfully, which is seriously a result of personal pride.
When we see our pride magnified on the cross, we acquire a greater awareness of God's grace. Our response is greater gratitude for our salvation. Thus humility is cultivated and amplified daily through meditating on the suffering of our Savior. | | |
| SanctificationGod is good, this year or so (end of 2007 and 2008) has been one of the hardest, yet most sanctifying of year(s) for me in a long time. Through so many different avenues, through successes and through failures, with smiles and with tears God is showing me daily what it truly means to die to myself, to forsake pride, and to follow Him. Yah, its been sweet. There's my update haha, there are not many who read xanga these days, but for those of you who do, happy birthday, Merry Christmas, happy every other legit holiday, congrats on your engagements, marriages, babies, etc. Till next time, Sola Deo Gloria!

| Free Reformed Theological Seminary Courses on iTunesSo a few days ago I was blog browsing and lo and behold, I came across the words "Free Seminary curriculum" on Ted's xanga. So I checked it out. Go to the itunes store (you have to use iTunes), click under iTunes U, and then click on Reformed Theological Seminary. All the courses/tracks are free. So I've been downloading non stop.
There is nothing like sitting in a seminary classroom; I miss school that much. Then again, these tracks are Free.
If you don't know anything about any of these professors... download these courses, by these big name profs!
1) John Frame - Everything that Frame has is worth a listen.
Frame is a stud, if you are interested in apologetics/philosophy from a Reformed perspective, then you probably already know of John Frame; download these courses - "Christian Apologetics", "Pastoral and Social Ethics", and "History of Philosophy of Christian Thought". (The last one is only interesting if you want historical info on the development of philosophy and Christian thought).
2) Derek Thomas - "Theological Foundations" (this course is excellent for foundations; ie. Doctrines of Grace, etc.)
3) The O.T. and N.T. courses are good, but it's hard to follow on audio, sometimes the prof. is pointing at some map, a course outlines notebook, or some power point on the board, that makes it difficult to follow. There are also some Hebrew/Greek references made throughout the lectures, so make sure you have BDB or a Hebrew resource and your Mounce and Wallace books near by. -Kistemaker is a stud for N.T., but all the courses are good.
4) J.I. Packer - Classic stud! "History and Theology of the Puritans" - can be boring at times, but if you listen carefully you will understand why J.I. Packer is J.I. Packer.
5) The Church History classes are good for those of you who want to learn about the history of the Christian Church; any where from the Patristics, to the Reformers - Luther, Calvin, etc. to Modern stuff. Check it out.
There is a bunch of other stuff on the RTS iTunes page as well; again this is all FREE!
Anyway, enjoy! | | |
| Can we pray the O.T. prayers that sound like curses? This blog entry by Justin Taylor on imprecatory psalms - is such a good entry. For quite a while now I have been wrestling with the very question of imprecatory prayers and their application to Christians. The N.T. (New Testament) tells us to love our enemies; but the O.T. (Old Testament) contains "curse" prayers - i.e. David in the Psalms crying out to the LORD, asking Him to strike down an enemy. Are Christians forbidden from meditating and praying these Scriptures over our enemies? If so then what do we do with the imprecatory prayers of the O.T.? We can't just void them out of the Bible; are they still applicable today?

Can a Christian get the physical benefits of Yoga without incorporating the spiritual essence of Hinduism? This is an interesting read.
