Switching from Obstetrics to Gynaecology from this week onwards, I think I will miss Obstetrics: the screaming mothers in labour, and the first cries of the babies.

This was taken in "環保島", but till now I still don't know exactly where it is...

I did touch the spade ga~ only it was not captured on photo~ 都係d後生可畏, 肯捱搏盡, 不顧泥濘, 犧牲對鞋

this big one in the 願望成真樹區 costs $3,000; small ones in the 績福樹區 cost $200 each.

十個老師 十個小孩

Finally I finished my delivery of 10 children!

It is quite amazing to witness the birth of 10 babies. From the very beginning when I dont even know how to take the cord blood, I really learnt quite a lot.

So next time when I am on the same flight with a pregnant woman in labour, I can

1. diagnose a labour

2. call for help

3. give verbal instruction to the woman

4. .... probably that's all...

Do flight attendants know how to conduct a delivery?

How would it feel like to be pregnant

And how would it feel like to give birth.

I think even if I watched it over a hundred times, I won't be able to experience that.

Obstetric rotation was kind of relaxing so far~

For the first few times when I felt the tummy of a pregnant woman, I found it difficult to differentiate the head and the bums. It was actually quite magically to feel the baby's kick inside the tummy. With practice, and the fact that over 95% of pregnancy are cephalic presentation, I started to feel the engaged baby head and the magic seemed fading away.

Every pregnancy is a miracle, and every pregnancy is beautiful. Pregnancy can also be a great deal of suffering and trouble, especially when the pregnancy comes in the wrong time and when it comes to labour.

Youngest pregnant lady I saw: 13 years-old girl. She was a "victim" of a rape, by her 14-year-old boy friend. I wasn't shocked at all when she openly spoke about that during our conversation. Afterall, we were trained not to look shocked. She was going to take care of the baby together with her family, it could have been a nice ending to a tragedy, but when I couldn't find any readiness and maturity from her eyes, I worried.

It is quite ironic when hundreds of couples queue up for the sub-fertility clinic on this side and on the other side queued a line of teenage girls waiting for their termination of pregnancy.

*********************************************************************

If you think nurses dont shout at their patients, you haven't been to the labour ward.

What do you do when you feel pain?

You scream: "唔好叫, 留返d力, 聞氣啦(止痛氣)"

You cry: "唔好喊, 收聲, 合埋個嘴, 用力"

You feel exhausted: "繼續繼續, 長長力, 長長力, 好似十年無痾屎咁痾佢出黎!"

You grab your husband's hand and he just kept saying "用力用力!"

Sigh... thank your mother even if you think she hasn't take good care of you. You have torn her most private part to come to this world.

To all husbands: if you are to support your wife who is in labour:

1. Keep your mouth shut: Your wife doesn't like it very much when you keep saying 用力用力 when she is actually 用緊力.

2. Provide her your hand: don't withdraw even when you bleed under her nails. She bleeds MUCH more than you.

A CCT A CELEBRATION

I survived Medicine CCT!! Prof Kumana may be intimidating, but luckily Dr. Raymond Chan saved me! Afterall, we are all trained to be safe doctors, not super-powerful and knowledgeable professors.

My patient was a Bangladashi whom I met briefly few days before the exam. In a way, luck was on my side, because I know about his past health and the interview went rather smoothly. It so happened that he is PhD student and used to teach while he was doing his master degree, he noticed my nervousness and calmed me a little bit~~ Nice that I met him for my exam. Afterall luck is a major factor to determine the exam outcome.

After the exam, as a celebration, I went wake-boarding!!

It is NOT that easy to even stand up.... the most successful attempt I got to stand for about 1 sec!

That was it... pretty good already for a beginner~~
