| Playing in NorwayToday was our first of seven or eight concert dates. We played in the cafe of one of the major university campuses here and tomorow we go across town to the other campus. It was a lot of fun to see people nodding their heads to the beat in Norwegian.(it looks a lot the way it does in english) There were some good connections made between Chi Alpha Staff and students and we even sold a cd. Yesterday we were able to get out and see some of the famous Norwegian water ways or fjords. The water was absolutley beautiful and the trails that meander up and down the cliffs that run along the fjords are a wonderful experience. I miss my beautiful children and can't wait to get back to them but we are happy that they are in such capable and loving hands. | | |
| Day oneFirst full day in Norway Looks a lot like OR Evergreens hills mountains water Met some Norwegian students at a Norwegian BBQ BBQ in Norway is a strange thing The grill comes in a cardboard box and you use it once and throw it away The people seem very kind and somewhat subdued Not using a car slows the pace of life and I think that is a good thing Talking with amazing friends about how God's words and ideas will go forward in Norther Europe Saw many college freshmen hanging out playing games drinking getting undressed(evidently that was part of the games one new friend said it was part of a hazing ritual) Talked about God's church its history its faults its triumphs its future our part It's a glorious Church with out spot or wrinkle washed in the blood of The Lamb! | | |
| caffineHey all!! Or hey-yall as they would say in my former home state.(well, they say that in the southern part of the state not so much where I am actually from)
Is it just me or does caffine really enhance ones ability to think and process deeper and more creative thoughts? Uh-oh I am starting to sound like one of those 60's rockers talking about psychadellic drugs.
Friends who pray please pray as Sunia and I leave for Norway tomorow to join a team there in 8 days of campus ministry.
The day just seems brighter after a good french press. Don't worry it is a casual addiction not habbit forming. | | |
| submissionHave you ever had doubt about that scene in the action film where the hero chokes the bad guy unconscious in seconds? Or have you wondered why fighters tap out so quickly when caught in what the pro wrestlers refer to as the "sleeper hold?" I am here to tell you that this stuff really works. At different times in my life I have had to go through training on how to deal with an individual on a hand to hand basis. Chokes, nerve techniques and submissions have all been a part of what I had to become proficient at to do my job well at the time. That extensive training and being knocked out before during training is how I knew I was on the verge of going unconscious today. As I was hanging out with my awesome kids today, my beautiful 4 year old daughter jumped on my back and asked me to give her a ride to her room. Like usual she hung her full weight on my throat and like usual I just tightened the muscles in my neck so she isn't cutting off the air. About the time we walked into Maddy's room I realized that even though I was able to breath I was beginning to pass out. What had happened is exactly what happens to fighters who have to tap out or go out almost immediately when some one catches them in the sleeper hold. The blood flow to the brain gets cut off on either side of the neck and the results are quick and definite. The way Maddy just happened to grab my neck this time placed her two little bony arms on either side of my neck cutting off the blood flow to the brain. The problem with this kind of submission technique is that even after the person releases it takes time for you to right yourself. Once I realized what was happening I gently set Maddy down but the damage was already done. I felt my limbs start to tingle, my head began to spin and my legs buckle sending me tumbling into her bedroom wall. I lay there on the verge of a complete black out and could not stop laughing at how my four year old little girl had knocked me out. It reminds of the time she dislocated my shoulder when she was two, but that is a whole other story. | | |
