Benoit/Freeman Project 2

It having officially been a Really Long Time since my last post, another one seemed in order.  I'd venture that not many people will read this, but hey, late-night writings are as good a way to pass the time as any...

Well, as most of my friends will know, my current "career" is substitute teaching.  I've been hired by 5 private schools in the Columbus (Ohio) area, and I teach just about everything.  Bible, History, English/Language, Math, Science, PE, and everything else interesting (and a few uninteresting subjects too!)  The pay's not the best in the world, but I'm getting tons of experience.  Moreover, I'm having all kinds of fun doing it too...mayhap if I don't get into grad school, I might go back and get a teaching certificate.  One never knows...

Many people have asked what I do in my "off hours," so I suppose that merits a brief paragraph.  I play volleyball twice a week in Dublin (which is, needless to say, all kinds of fun.)  I've got Bible study one evening a week, and sometimes I also go to swing club once a week.  Other than that, I also run my sibs around to their activities (music lessons and the like.)  I also read a ton (right now I'm in the middle of the Hugh Laurie book.)  Oh yeah, and I still keep up my compulsive watching of TV shows.  Right now I regularly watch Heroes, House, Spooks, and Prison Break.

I guess that'll have to do for now.  Sadly, as a member of the "working class," I've got to get up early tomorrow.  Like everyone else, I'm just working, looking forward to Christmas and various...other enterprises next year.  What might those be, you ask?  Well, sadly...

YOU'RE NOT CLEARED FOR THAT

   'Til next time, then...

Well, break is functionally coming to an end for me.  On 1 January, I leave for Spain/France with Dr. Stewart and a few other kids (none of whom I know.)  Should be fun, especially if last year is any indication...We'll be over there 'til the middle of January (when school starts,) then we come back and jump right into classes.  It hardly seems like my last semester is practically here, but it already is...
On a slightly materialist track, I got a bunch of spiffy coo' presents for Christmas.  I got a nice 5 MP digital camera (which I'll be taking to Spain/France, then Turkey and everywhere else.)  My sister got me a copy of Gogol's /The Inspector General/, which is one of the most hilarious plays I've ever read.  I also got a Dick Tracy comic (always one of the coolest crimefighters out there,) and some loose cash.  The money'll probably end up being saved for grad school, 'tho I might perhaps find other uses for it...
My grad school applications are basically done now, and I must say that it's quite a load off my mind.  Actually, I didn't realize how much I was stressing over it until last evening when I discovered that Dr. Stephens had _finally_ submitted my recommendation forms.  I went to sleep feeling much better than I have in recent memory, and slept for about 10 hours!  I guess it was bothering me more than I'd cared to admit to myself...Well, the apps are all in, and so now I just wait 'til February or March to find out if I got in anyplace.  Notre Dame's my top pick, followed by U of Mich and U of Pittsburgh.  As always, I could surely use some prayers in this department...
But in pretty much all respects, things are shaping up quite nicely...My trip will be tons of fun, next semester should be doable, then I graduate and go to Turkey!  Presumably I'll get into a good grad school, and then I should have a nice career set out in front of me!

Wow...almost two months since my last post. 2vv337! Well, as my readers will probably imagine, I'm home right now for Thanksgiving break. Yep, spending time with my family (as always,) is good, and I'm having a blast. It's supposed to snow tomorrow...always a good thing, right?
Since the semester's almost over, I suppose I ought to record what I've learned:
1) Post-modernism is wrong, meta-narratives do exist, and we can know truth.
2) “Can” definately does not imply “ought,” although saying that amuses Dr. Turner
3) Late-night walks with friends are always most enjoyable
4) Once one gives up on sanity, 21 credit hours become a lot more doable
5) My sister making me learn swing dancing was a good call (she’s normally right about such things...)
6) It’s most worthwhile to become a protectorate of Koon
7) “Bombs-Of-All-Killing” are typically called “Doomsday Devices”
8) N-square is such fun
9) Spending time with friends is always worth it, especially since all of my friends are supa’ cool!
10) New expressions popularized this semester: Narf, troz, poit, zort, fjord, egad, “tee hee,” muchly, -ness (verb suffix), -ly (verb suffix), w00t, and “I have knives, foo!”
Yes, in these and many other ways, this has been a most excellently enjoyable semester. So ‘til next time, then, crunch crunch! :)

It having been a suitably long period of time since my last post, it seemed like a good idea to write a brief update on what I've been doing recently.  As I'm currently taking 21 credits, my activities have mostly involved studying, studying, and...well, you get the idea.  It is fun, though (in a twisted and perverse way,) and it's what I need to do to graduate early (which...uhm...kinda needs to happen.)

It's perhaps not as totally bad as I make it sound, however...I still have some free time, just not as much as I would like (unsurprisingly!)  But hey, so long as I still have time to spend with my friends, it's all good...

In other (less significant but probably more interesting) news, I'm most certainly an X-Phile now (read: one who loves the TV show "The X-Files.")  It's tightly written, well-acted, and just plain brilliant.  And it has all kinds of trivial minutia for me to memorize, which always geeks me out...Anyway, if you ever want to watch an episode with me, just shoot me an IM.  I'll probably be busy studying, but you never know... :)

OK, this is where the real fun for the summer starts...I'm leaving tomorrow evening for France.  For those of you who don't already know, I'll provide a brief...uh...briefing on what I'm doing below:
I fly tomorrow (Thursday) out of Port Columbus heading towards New York City.  Once I land there, I catch a direct flight to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris (it'll be Friday by the time I get there, 6-hour time change notwithstanding.)  Friday through Sunday will be spent exploring around Paris with some other students and Mme. Morellec (of course.)  My big request/hope is to see the Musee Rodin (imagine the accent mark is there,) but I'm also looking forward to seeing the Louvre, Les Invalides, La Conciergerie, Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, Place de la Concorde, and, of course, La Tour Eiffel!    After we get done in Paris, we head over to Tours for the real fun: the Language Institute!  Yep, I live with a host family + 3 other students (none of whom will speak English,) and go to French-language classes all day.  Since I'm a French minor, I doubt I'll have too many linguistic problems, but I'm also sure that it'll be a great opportunity to increase my fluency.  That, and maybe I'll become comfortable using the future tense in spoken French (I can write it, but I've never become comfortable using verbal sentences with it...)  Of course, I'll also be spending time around town and seeing k3w1 sites, but the main focus will be my language skills.
Anywhoo, I spend a lot of time there, and arrive back in the USA on the 30th.  I'm taking my laptop on the trip, which means I'll have both pictures and the ability to get on the internet iff I can get a decent  internet connection.  All of that to say that my already-erratic posting schedule will become more erratic, but at least this time I have an excuse! :)  So, I hope my friends have a cool summer, and my next post will either be from France or from the USA upon my return.  Crunch crunch! 8-)
