A Mayetta man in an apparent stupor was arrested Thursday morning after
Topeka police said he broke into a home in the 2000 block of S. Kansas and
passed out inside the house.
Luke Anthony Wabaunsee, 24, was booked into the Shawnee County Jail at 9:42
a.m. in connection with criminal trespass, criminal damage to property and
interference with a city officer. Topeka police Lt. Chris Heaven said officers were called Thursday morning for
a break-in at a home in the area and found the suspect passed out in the living
room. Heaven said the man became combative and was tazed after officers
attempted to wake the man.
Jenny Prichard said it was just after 8:30 a.m. when her husband walked to
the downstairs portion of the house and noticed the broken lock on the
6-inch-thick front door.
After checking on her mother and other portions of the 7,000-square-foot
home, Prichard said her husband retrieved a Pepsi from the kitchen and went to
the living room. That is when William Prichard discovered the stranger passed
out on the couch.
"He had his head on the pillow and was sound asleep," Prichard said.
Wabaunsee allegedly stayed asleep until police arrived.
"When he woke up, he started saying, 'I'm home! I'm home,' " Prichard
said.
Topeka police said the man it was after Wabaunsee was awakened that he became
combative and was tazed in the living room. Police said it is unknown why the
man was in the home, but heavy intoxication is suspected.
Prichard said the man apologized several times after being taken into police
custody. While she said she couldn't imagine the man actually mixed up their
house with his own — it is the only one on the block — she said she it doesn't
appear he attempted to take any items.
"I can't imagine he came in to steal anything," she said. "Maybe he looked at
the stuff and decided he needed a nap." |
