  • Draft Update:

Chicago made a foolish decision and went with Rose at #1.  Miami took Beasley at #2 and talk is that they're going to keep him and work on trading Marion.  That better be all settled by the time I get back because I only want to buy the jersey once...

Looks like Walker went to Boston at 47, via Washington.  Guess I finally have a reason to root for Boston.  At least the jerseys's green.

Of note to some of my potential readers: Brandon Rush went to Indiana, via Portland at 13, Darrell Arthur went to Houston, via Portland, via New Orleans at 27, Mario Chalmers to Miami at 34, via Minnesota, Darnell Jackson to Miami at 52, via Orlando, and Sasha Kaun went to Seattle at 56, via New Orleans, via Houston.  Also your former chickenhawk JR Giddens went to Boston at 30.  So how does it feel to have your entire team get drafted leaving you with... Bill Self and a waterboy?

Good news for Sasha, Seattle seems to be attempting to field the first ever all 6-11 and taller lineup.  They have six players at 6-11 or taller with another at 6-10, and four more at 6-9.  Note that none of the 6-11 and up squad are actually, you know, good.  Quantity over quality I suppose.

I'm sure there'll be a ton of trades while I'm out.  For example, it was announced the Darrell was traded from Portland, to Houston while I was still typing.

    Eminence here I come!

  • Soon.

I've getting my stuff together for Eminence and checking out the essentials, ie does the maglite work.  It didn't!  But six batteries later and 2 new bulbs (1 and a spare) its up and running and brighter than ever thanks to the Xenon bulbs (versus Krypton.)  The funny part with the bulbs is that we went to Cabela's on our way back from Excelsior and they didn't have the bulbs I needed, and I found them at a hardware store (not the one that got scattered all over town) right here in Manhattan.

Hope to see you all soon!

  • Tornado!

An F4 tornado hit Manhattan wednesday night.  My neighborhood was in the tornadoes path but apparently the  tornado lifted off the ground shortly before hitting our neighborhood.  Our house is fine, but not everyone was so fortunate.  One neighborhood had his roof punched full of holes by flung debris, a number of others have roof damage as well.  Debris was everywhere in the neighborhood, shingles, metal siding (some pieces at least 15 feet long,) vegetable matter, trees, trash, etc.  In our yard we had the top of a tree, note that our yard is not the usual home for this tree.  Walking around the neighborhood last night after we got tornado pooed I noticed a very large metal sign, very mangled.  The sign simply said "RAGE."  It seemed appropriate.

The sign originally read "STORAGE."  The people who got the STO half didn't get nearly as good a message.

Campus was hit fairly hard as well, the current estimates have the damage at $20 million.

No one is Manhattan was killed by the tornado, and the only reported injuries have come in the cleanup, many communities were less fortunate.

  • NBA Draft Lottery

I suppose some of you may have forgotten to keep tabs on the NBA draft lottery.  In the NBA draft lottery there are 1000 ping pong balls placed in a big sphere and then spun.  The lottery consists of those teams that did not make the playoffs.  The number of ping pong balls you get is determined by how bad you did.  Miami with the worst record (30th) got 250 ping pong balls, Chicago at 21st got 17 ping pong balls.

Chicago won the lottery and gets the pick of Micheal Beasley, KSU, (the only real option) and Derrick Rose (Memphis).  Miami came in second and should pick up Rose.  This gives the Bulls the scoring, rebounding big man they've been desperate for since, well, ever.

Chicago would have Beasley, Deng, Gordon, Hinrich, Noah, Gooden, Hughes, Thomas, Nocioni, Duhon.  Add in some rookies from last year, probably a second round pick as well, and Chicago's got a good set of players to play and some assets to trade.  Chicago does seem to lean toward players with success at the highest levels, which could cause them to lean to Rose, but Beasley is exactly the player they've been desperate for, so I don't see them going that route.

Miami picking up a decent point guard in Rose will give them a core of Rose, Wade, Marion, and Haslem, thats a pretty decent team, definitely back in the playoffs, specially if 'Zo comes back for one more year.  Their bench is worrisome with almost no one else under contract for next season who would even make the roster for another team.  I'll expect Riley to be pumping the phones to get some depth.

Any thoughts from the two or three of you who have any idea what I'm talking about?
