| Bridger Ridge Run 08Jerry and I help with communications for the Ridge Run each year. Yesterday we hiked to Ross Pass. It was a difficult hike. Just when it started to get steep we had strong winds and rain. The gusts we strong enough to knock me over - literally. I twisted a knee but I think it'll be fine. I have no pics from that part of the hike because we just needed to get where were going, get a fire and set up the tent. We almost turned back, we had made sure we had a plan B which was going back to the pickup (we had it set up nicely with a topper, etc.) Plan C was to bag the whole deal, go home, and come up with the rest of the aid crew at 5am. We made camp and I miraculously got the tent set up while Jerry got a fire going. There was a strong steady wind with rain, the gusts we estimated at 50 mph. It was nasty. NASTY. After an hour or so it cleared up and it became a nice evening. Today was superb. Then, while we were at the finish line there was a warning of a thunderstorm coming packing 60 mph winds. Weather can be an adventure.
Ready to head up.

After the nasty storm in dry, warm clothes and as you can see, beautiful weather.

Jerry at the fire. You can see our hiking boots in the foreground, we were trying to dry them out. Did a pretty good job too. They're still damp, but nothing to hurt our feet.

We saw 280 runners come through our checkpoint.

On the hike down afterwards we enjoyed the wildflowers we had stormed past on the way up. It was gorgeous.

Me with Ross Peak in the background. You can see my bear spray on my right hip. After last year's encounter, I will go nowhere without my bear spray.

At the finish line. There were lots of happy runners like the gal in orange on the left, and those that struggled in like the person hidden by the guy in the yellow shirt.

Our guys at net control at the finish line. These HAMs were at their post before Jerry and I checked in at 6:30am and they are currently still at their post (it is a little after 4pm). There were other HAM radio operaters at each aid station and following the end runners. It was a great team! | | |
| OutsideWhile on vacation I got to do several fun things outside. Below are some pics. I went river rafting with my mom and her cancer survivor group, hiked Mount Storm King with Jerry, and got some needed time at the beach.

Mom and me. I took this picture, I am getting good at the one handed self-portraits.

Mom and our friend Hannah. Hannah is one of the sweetest people I know.

Paddle Mom, paddle.

It was a warm day and I was over dressed, some play time in the drink will help that.

The hike to Storm King. Our destination is top of the rocky part above my head and a little to the right.

The hike was two miles with 2,100 feet of elevation change. It was steep and the aid of some ropes in a couple places was welcome.

Views from the top never get old. The following three pictures are of Lake Crescent from east to west.

We spent quite a bit of time on this rock just soaking in the view. Pictures never quite capture the scenery, and in this case they failed miserably. It was incredibly beautiful.
This picture is towards our starting point (the pic above where I said our destination is the rocky part). If you can make out the boat launch, the first picture of this hike was taken in the grassy area closer to the hill.

If all I did when I went home was sit on this beach and soak in the sights, sounds, and smells I would be happy. It restores a part of me everytime.
I saw two eagles and heard them screaming over this part of Freshwater Bay. They soared and screamed and I was the only one there to watch and listen. Cool. I didn't have the camera with me so took this pic on another trip.

My dogs like time at the beach too, but Duke never figures out the salt water. He continually tries to get a drink. Poor pooch.

Jerry and me at the bay. | | |
| Cutest Dog in the WorldI have thought that Arlo was the cutest, but on vacation I met my brother's dog Radar and realized the cutest dog in the world lives in Joyce, WA, not Bozeman, MT. He has a great disposition to match his looks. He and Arlo were doggy buddies which was very cute to watch.
