| | What Is God? Zen sees the paradox in life. It understands that many things in life cannot be comprehended on a cognitive basis. So, with a tip of the hat to the Zen masters, here is Ron's version of "What is God?"
God is God. Seems simple enough, God is God, enough said.
God is not God. Once you have created an image in your mind, you have lost God. The Tao says, "the name that can be named is not the eternal name." In the previous paragraph, I almost wrote, "God is who He is." However, this assumes that God is a "who" (perhaps God is a "what") and that God is a "He."
One made of clay and decorated with gold. We create our own images of God. They are often made of clay. Clay is able to be formed and shaped according to our wills. We decorate them with gold because they become special to us. We cling to these images because they have the value of gold.
God is no mind. Once we feel that we have comprehended God, we have lost God. Our ego wants to feel that it understands God. Really the ego wants to be God. So, God is found in the loosening of our minds.
Your name is Yecho. You reflect a part of God. So in viewing yourself, you are also viewing a part of God. (Even if our name isn't Yecho!)
The one enshrined in the Church. God is found in the church. However, it may be a one made of clay and decorated with gold.
Even the finest artist cannot paint him. Isn't this a gem? Beauty beyond the ability of the finest artist to capture it.
Three pounds of flax. Yes, God is flax and flax is God. God can be found in the flax. Similarly, if you contemplate the wonder that is flax, you will see God.
A dried up shit-stick. Blasphemy? This will offend many people. They will have a quite viseral reaction. However, is God not found in a dried up shit stick?
So, I'd encourage you to add to this list. What is God? |
