  • her implacability

it's interesting to notice one's own temerity at times. despite the repetitive sucker punches i've received from life--often right in the nose--reminding me that i never have more than a tenuous grasp at best, i persistently continue to hope for something i can really hold tight.

as for non-sequiturs, here's a great poem i read recently:

    Freckles
           -Jennifer L Knox

    I can tell your shoulder
    from the back
    of your hand
    from your knee
    by the hue,
    circumference,
    and the distance between.

    Like a map
    of all the sun
    that ever fell
    on your body.

  • i kissed my twenties goodbye

not a bad way to spend a monday. especially with good company. and margaritas.

we learned a lot from the easy listening station serenading us from the little speakers designed to look like rocks on the "realistic miniature golf" course. (quotes because i'm actually quoting their ad, not because it wasn't realistic. just to clarify.) for instance, "i want to hold you 'til i die" isn't exactly romantic. especially when followed by, "until we both break down and cry." seriously? i'll hold you until you cry. great. sounds like somebody needs therapy. or will, after dating that guy.

  • there's something really great about having a frank conversation. especially with a two-year-old.

(there is no preface to this conversation. this was the first time we'd met.)

t.y.o: "my toenails are painted." (we pause to properly admire them.) "where's your kids?"
me: "i don't have any kids."
    tyo: "where's your husband?"
    me: "i don't have a husband."
    tyo: "where's your purse?"
me: "well, i don't have one of those either. want to look through my wallet?"

after the second question, i began to wonder if she'd been talking to my mother--who's been asking me the same question for some years now. but the two year old was satisfied upon learning that i had not one but two credit cards.

currently listening to: old episodes of radio lab

p.s. did you catch that rainbow last night? i mean, not to quote old skittles commercials. but it was pretty.
