The Weekend....

It's been a good weekend.  I had a BLAST at my class. There was a lot of one on one attention.  As I am NOT an painter, I had a four main goals for this class: Learn how to prepare glass for painting, learn a couple of painting techniques, learn a couple of paint strokes, and have fun.  Mission Accomplished! I now need to decide what I want to paint on the windows. I have considered doing a quilt pattern or an outdoor scene. But I won't have time to do it for a while so..Trevor even got to paint some.

My practice piece.

Trevor's piece--he was taught 'dot flowers' and leaves. He did a good job didn't he?

Today was nice. This morning I got flowers (yellow roses--my favorite color of roses) and carnations (my favorite flower).  The boys also gave me a painted pony to add to my collection.  We went to church where Stephen did an excellent job--plus I got to play with Sweetiedoodle, Doodlebug and Snickerdoodle.  Doodlebug (the oldest) sat with me during Praise time and we had fun drawing. After church, our family went to see a movie (this has been a tradition for the past few years). We saw Ironman and I really enjoyed it (plus got to eat LOTS of buttered popcorn).  We then went straight to mom's (Stephen's mom), visited and ate with her and Stephen's sister and family.  Finally home.  We are all tired but it was a nice day.

We only have 2 more weeks of school.  WHOO HOO!

YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW AND SOME DIGITAL SCRAPBOOK PAGES

Yesterday, we took a field trip to the zoo. I thought I wouldn't take a lot of pictures, but I really just love animals so...We saw my favorite (red pandas), Stephen's favorite (cotton top tamarins), Jonathan's favorite (snow leopard) and Jordan's favorite (spider monkeys). T doesn't have a favorite. How about you? Do you have a favorite zoo animal? I also somehow hurt my right wrist/hand. I am hoping it's just sprained and will be okay by Monday. I'm keeping it either in my brace or wrapped.

Today, I slept late. Whoo Hoo. The waking up so much each night catches up with me now and then. I'm still tired. but that's my life. Jordan and T. helped me with a new bulletin board. They are really enjoying it which is very good since it's interactive and requires thinking and writing. They think it's fun!

Tomorrow, I have my glass painting class. I am hoping to learn a couple of new techniques. I got two old windows from my mother in law and I want to paint them. Not sure what I'll paint on them...yet!

Animated Digital Scrapbook Pages: I tried to put my smilebox animated digital scrapbook pages on here, but couldn't.  If you are really interested in seeing them, you can click on the links. The first one requires you to click on the arrow in the flower at the bottom of the page in order to go to the next page.

S.E.A.L. Team: What's It Really Mean? (Tonight at The Forge)

Our youth group is called the S.E.A.L. Team.  So tonight I wanted the kids to get a real sense of who we are and remind them what S.E.A.L. stands for and means.

We opened by dividing them into teams and having them list as many adjectives about our youth group as they come up with in five minutes. Man, they did an awesome job.  They, then, circle the ones they considered the top five. We had each group read off theirs so any duplicates could be 'redone'.  Surprisingly, there were only a couple of duplicates. So we ended up with 20 GREAT words to describe our group.  Next, they came up with a symbol for each word. Again, very creative group and they did an awesome job. Lastly, I had them make banners. Stephen and I already had a sample banner, and everything they needed to complete their banners. They are truly a great group of kids. The banners were a tangible and visual reminder of who we really are as a youth group.

Our 'lesson' centered around what S.E.A.L. stands for and Bible verses to back that up (with discussion questions, as well). S=serve (we MUST invest in others and use our gifts, talents, time, etc to advance the Kingdom through our investments). E=Empower (we are empowered by the Holy Spirit and we empower others by listening to and obeying the Holy Spirit), A=Advance (we advance others through 'building them up"/encouragement and advance ourselves by 'growing in salvation'). L=Lead (we must learn to follow before we can lead). Jeremiah 3:15 was a GREAT verse in teaching us to follow leaders who are 'leaders after God's own heart'. Psalm 78:72 was a good reminder that in order to lead we must have 'integrity of heart'. The things on our banners were confirmation that we are growing as a team that is serving, empowering, advancing and leading.

We also had two more people sign up for Open Mic. Night. Whoo Hoo.  Anyway..here are a few pics. SPECIAL THANKS to Brittney who is really helping me out by taking pics. You go, girl.

Brittney (my assistant photographer) w/her group's banner. Note: The front of each banner was the same with S.E.A.L. Team and what each letter stood for on it). The back had the symbols.

Britt's group used duct tape and super glue as the symbol for bonding. Their other symbols were: ninjas (warrior/warrior princesses), light bulb and hand (creativity), hands on top of each other (team), and a map for 'going out/being adventurous).

Me, showing Stephen's and my banner. One of our symbols was a sword (if you've been following my blogs for a while, you know we give out REAL swords to those who live our their faith by investing in others. We esp. give these out if/when they are 'leaving us'.) Other symbols were: carabiner (unity/adventure), wall with a crown (wall of warrior/warrior princesses), paint palette (originality/creativity) and thumbprint (unique).

S

Jaren's with his group's banner.  Their symbols are: a runner who is running to the finish line (for passionate), lion (courage), Superman symbol (heroes), muscles (strength/strong) and rhino (crash--explanation is in The Barbarian Way by Erwin McManus).

Some of the other words to discribe our group were: out of the box, exotic, optomistic, caring, helpful, involved (Shared Hope/Living Water..), fun, spontaneous, spiffy, spunky, priceless, energetic, giving,...that's all I can remember. LOL. But, truly, it was good night. I think it's always good to remember who you really are.

New Exercise Routine....

Due to the 'stuff' in the last post, I have developed a new exercise routine.  I think you should try it too.  Well, maybe not Tee.  REMEMBER, always consult your doctor before starting any exercise program!

SCROLL DOWN...

NOW SCROLL UP.

THAT'S ENOUGH FOR THE DAY.  GO EAT SOME CHOCOLATE.

OH, extra scrolling to get to comments.

You deserve more chocolate--or perhaps even french fries or strawberry cheesecake.

MORE...Keeping It Real.

You may remember that a while back, I wrote about how difficult it was for ministers and their spouses to find true friends in the church. There are waaaay too many expectations for us, and the people you think you can trust, you eventually learn you can't---for whatever reason. Again-my experience as a p.k. and p.w.

So..it's taken quite a few years to learn some lessons in the Life's School of Hard Knocks; but I've finally learned a few:

Keep your guard up (esp. over your heart),

 Stay on your toes.

Don't just take things at face value.

Remember people can say they are something 'til their face(s) turns blue--doesn't make it true.

Just because someone tells you something/gives you their word doesn't mean they'll keep it.

Friendship is a relative term--it obviously doesn't mean the same thing to everyone.

Many church members truly (and mistakenly) believe that ministry is for the paid staff (and of course their spouses) not them. AND/or that they can choose when/where to minister (like God doesn't have a plan for them as far as ministry goes)

Many people believe (again mistakenly) that 'balance' is a biblical concept and live accordingly.

Protect your heart. (yeah it was worth putting in there twice). Stomped and/or broken hearts don't heal so easily.

See..always something different 'on my mind'.  I should have added that question mark (symbol for misc. thoughts) on my head (last post). HUGE SIGH!  Going to go find something to get this bitter taste out of my mouth.
