| omg! went fabric shopping...and got some awsome stuff! i was hoping to stock up on solids. the thing i was hoping for most was some white french terry for pants and sweatshirts to dye, but the guy who usually has it wasn't there today.
But i got tons of really awsome cotton/lycra (5 yds dk grey, 4 yds dk teal, and 4 yds heathered olive), some other less natural feeling lycra-y slinky fabric, very soft though (several yds each of black, dk olive, and khaki, and 2yds chocolate brown), 3 yds of a gorgeous slinky lycra stripe that matches the heathered olive perfectly.
Then I also got about 3 yds of a to die for cotton jersey fish print on natural, 2 yds of a blue and natural very thin stripe which i think is a cotton/lycra, enough of a cool hippyish lt blue and brown crinkle cotton knit to make a mama tank for me. And then 5 yds each of black and navy interlock. There were a few other odds and ends, but that's the big stuff. Oh, and 5 cones of white thread and some bag-making notions...and a couple of trims... It was awsome! lol
I'm thinking I'll make some black, olive, and khaki pants from this pattern (ks3384), mid-calf length (which will probably be how the knee-length fit me, lol):

And then i'd like to do a raglan with the stripe that matches the heathered olive, and maybe a yoked cross-top, too, using the stripe as a yoke. and either a skirt or a pair of pants from the solid -- either the gaucho type pattern above or, if it turns out i don't love it, i think my rtw tracing that i've been making is kind might be kind of cool in a slinky cotton/lycra. | | |
| more for the mama wardrobegosh, i just realized that xanga is easier to use on my PC than on my Mac. hmm. but i like to use my Mac more...
so the list:
kwik sew 3352:

this is just like an rtw skirt that i love. now if i could only find the same fabric in different colors... my rtw skirt is knit and this is meant for wovens, so i think i'll try both.

| more plans for my wardrobe :)
i just got this pattern the other day, so i don't know if it'll work for me, but i have high hopes. i'm thinking that i'll do several short sleeved versions of the view with no gathering at the chest. i'd like to do one in black (i have some black hemp jersey and some very stable black rayon/cotton knit, so one of those), maybe one in a natural color hemp or cotton, and then one or two to dye. maybe some woven prints, too...
i also recently ordered this:

i hope this jacket is as easy as it looks. lol seems like you could do some nice fabric combinations and/or embellishments. i'm thinking of doing at least one in all black (something i could wear to teach or for something where i need to be a little dressed up), maybe with a solid black for the main part of the body and a brocade type thing for the bands. i'd also like to do one or two of them in fun prints, florals probably, amy butler-ish. of course, i'll have to make tops to wear with it. maybe just my mama tank pattern or a more feminine and shorter cami (i'm afraid my mama tank would be longer than the jacket). i think this style will look great with a long straight knit skirt, umm, black of course (maybe in black hemp).
i also need some basics:
- several more mama tanks, at least a couple in solid colors
- several more nursing bras -- also need a couple in solid colors, black, white, and natural would be great and then maybe one or two prints
- several more pairs of my rtw shorts tracing -- the ones i've already made were all in goofy colors and prints that look like jammies. so, boring solid colors would be good -- black, grey, navy, maybe a couple more
- several more pairs of my rtw pants tracing (though these can wait till fall) -- i really like them in french terry, so whatever colors i can find in f/t, maybe i'll make them in white and dye -- my current pattern is cropped, so i'd like to try to make a longer pair for winter
- woven pants -- i saw a good looking pattern with a cuff, but maybe i should try to do a cuff myself before i buy it, doesn't look too hard. i have a cool avocado green stretch twill that would be nice, probably cropped with side vents. i'd also love to try it in linen or a linen blend.

| where to start...omg, i should've started writing this stuff down a long time ago. i can't actually do any sewing until may or so (maybe, cross my fingers, the last week of april). so i'm hoping i can put some of this sewing energy into this blog, so it doesn't all go into fabric, notions, and pattern purchases.
so today, patternreview.com put out the second part of their list of "best patterns" and i want these:
simplicity 4697 -- a knit wardrobe
burda 3216 -- one seam pants (for knit or woven)
new look 6344 -- hippy tunic top. this one may be a good cheap alternative to this nancy's blouse by silhouette but i'll probably end up with both.
