Interests: She walks in Beauty, like the night / Of cloudless climes and starry skies; / And all that's best of dark and bright / Meet in her aspect and her eyes: / Thus mellowed to that tender light / Which Heaven to gaudy day denies. / One shade the more, one ray the less, / Had half impaired the nameless grace / Which waves in every raven tress, / Or softly lightens o'er her face; / Where thoughts serenely sweet express, / How pure, how dear their dwelling-place. / And on that cheek, and o'er that brow, / So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, / The smiles that win, the tints that glow, / But tell of days in goodness spent, / A mind at peace with all below, / A heart whose love is innocent! / Lord Byron, "She Walks In Beauty"
Expertise: Less than you imagine, More than you know.

My friends,

Due to a subconscious stroke of genius sometime late last night, I now have a new Xanga.  The sabre hilt idea was a poor one for a lady, so my new xanga is:

Music_of_the_Spheres

I would be delighted to have you subscribe to the new site, as this one will eventually disappear.

Life is busy, as I am sure all will agree.  I'm afraid that this is my only excuse for not posting more often.

This past weekend, I went on a trip to Seattle with the university Honors program.  Because I'm on the board, I actually got to help plan it.  We went to a play called "The King Stag" and the Seattle Art Museum and a glassblowing studio, and some wonderful restaurants.

The play was a classic Italian commedia play written in the 1700s or 1800s.  It was quite humorous, a fairy tale about a king trying to find a girl to marry, and then getting trapped in the body of a stag while his evil prime minister takes over the country in his (the king's) body.  The best part was that ten members of our group got to sit on stage!  I'm entirely serious; for this style of play, the actors need people to interact with them.  The first character comes onto stage, promptly introduces himself to all of us, then climbs down off the stage and talks to a few people in the front row, and then climbs a ladder up to the balcony.  This sort of thing continued throughout the performance.  Two members of the audience arrived late (during the first speech), and so the actors picked on them for the rest of the play.  When the evil prime minister went on a rampage and was shouting about how he would chop the head off anybody who annoyed him, he added, "And anyone who comes in late."  He jumped off the stage, ran to the back of the theater, screamed "Your program privileges have been revoked!", grabbed the programs and took them back to the stage and shredded them into little pieces.  Yes, it was an interesting performance.

I met my dear friend for dinner at a wonderful Indian restaurant.  She has been my friend for longer than anyone else I know; our parents were friends before we were born.  It is really neat to have people you know so well, and who always know exactly what you're thinking.  We had a blast!

This post was my brief break between studying Quantitative Analysis (an evil form of chemistry that primarily deals with how much of something is in a sample, stoichiometry, and equilibria) and Organic Chemistry.  Wish me luck with my homework problems!

For the sake of entertainment and sanity, or perhaps insanity, I offer the following dialogue from a sappy dramatization of the death of Socrates (watched in my history class):

"How should I take the poison?  Surely you know best." --Socrates to the guard

"Drink it, then walk around until your legs feel heavy.  Then, lie down; the poison will do the rest."--The guard's reply

Maybe I have been studying a bit too much, because this sounds funny to me.  Maybe you have to see it...

Owing to the fact that my dear sister has given me reason to jumpstart my blog with ten random things, this is my inaugural post.  It promises to be rather trivial, if you know what I mean!

1. If it were not for hydrogen bonding between water molecules, we would not exist.  Without it, water could not exist as a liquid at normal temperatures and since the human body is over 70% water...

2. The dent above your upper lip is called a philtrum

3. This is not exactly the sort of post I imagined for impressing y'all with my posting skills

4. George Eliot was actually a woman named Mary Ann Cross (maiden name: Evans)

5. The shape of the human ear is as distinct to each person as a fingerprint

6. The author of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" was Julia Ward Howe

7. George Bush, Sr. fought as a pilot in WWII and was shot down in Japanese waters.  His two crewmen ejected and were never seen again, but he crashed the plane into the water and was picked up about 20 minutes later by a US submarine.

8. I lived in a sorority for four years (Note to my friends: lest you become excessively alarmed about my mental state and Christian Faith, I lived there when my parents were houseparents during Daddy's time in graduate school)

9. If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.

10. Twenty-six Presidents were lawyers before becoming president.  Hmm, wonder what that says about our country?  Maybe it explains a lot!

Noah, Hope, Matthew, you're it!  And, for very good measure, so are you, Jessa

Since this is my first post, it may take them some time to find out that they were tagged.

Also, EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, I do not, absolutely do not, like the Xanga name I have (it was the only thing my siblings and I could think of on the spur of the moment).  I want suggestions!  If you have any ideas, let me know!
