What photography books to buy

  MasterLightingGuide

masterlighting

MasterLightiing

This is a wonderful book that studies the lighting techniques of many master photographers that I hold in high esteem, I am very honored to be a part of such a fine book. I can't wait to practice some of the great techniques I learned in my next workshops!

Photography Book Recommendations

Many people ask me what photography books to read. There are two that I am going to highly recommend. One is on posing and the other is on lighting. In fact I'm going to require all those who take my workshops to buy these books. They are great reference books because they cover a lot of the basics that I demonstrate in my classes. For less than $50, this is a great way to learn about the building blocks of creating amazing images.

The question may be asked why should anyone need to take my classes if you can learn it all from these books? I guess one could learn calculus from a book too but it is much better to have a teacher explain it and show it's practical applications. First of all there are so many ideas in theses books it is hard to determine what to use and how to use them  It will take years to figure out what works best and what doesn't for your particular style. I filter down many of these ideas, add to them, and show students how I have created an efficient workflow which has taken me 7 years to master. Secondly, most people learn better by example. It is one thing to read about something and another to actually see it and do it.

Those who are fairly new to photography, may be overwhelmed by all the information. I recommend reading at least the first couple of chapters and skim through the entire book. During our workshop, I will help you digest it and help put into practice everything.

Other Notes: I just booked a wedding in Paris, so I added another workshop in Sept!

Scott:

Thanks for the info on the book "Master Lighting Guide". I NEED to pick that up, I don't have that one and it looks good. Maybe after studing and reading this book it will prepare me for a hands on workshop of yours. After all these years and with so many changes in photography I feel the need to brush up and work on my knowledge of lighting, its very different with digital.

Those look like VERY worthwhile tools. Learning how to see and create lighting to fit the subject can really save time on the PS backside=))

WoW to your shots too!

In a world that seems to be all take, you give so much, you are an inspiration in so many ways. I learn so much every time I visit. Would still love a seminar over here in Aus.
