I don't know how to say it, I don't want to either.
I got Roosevelt as one of those spur-of-the-moment things. That day we just happened to walk to the side of Meijer. He wasn't even the one I wanted. I wanted to big jolly parakeet and I go the undersize jittery one. But a few days later I sat in this same spot, giddy, and telling everyone about my new bird.
In the short time I had him, I had a lot of bad days. A lot of days where everyone hated me, or days where I hated everyone. Where all I wanted to do was come home and listen to his soft chirps. Even if my bad day happened in the living room and I was only a step away, he was there. That mattered. I guess the surroundings didn't matter. Maybe he was home.
I could have been a better bird owner. I may have forgotten to feed him, yea, I could have cleaned his cage more.
But I hope he was happy. I hope he was happy when he sang along to "Back for More" or "Holiday." I hope he was happy when he sang alone. I hope he was happy when he bounced across his cage looking for a fight. I hope he was happy when he looked at himself. I hope he was happy when he flew table to table. I hope he was happy when he landed on your head.
But even if he wasn't happy, I hope he loved me. I hope where ever he is, he loves me still.
Because I know I love him.

  • I was gonna tell you.

    But nevermind.

    I remember.

The last day, the empty house.
It was no longer a home.
    Everytime.

  • No, I am not a harlot. I love Clay Aiken. And I am a liberal. I say this proudly.
