  • Happy Independence Day!

Today has been pretty laid back, everyone chillin' (except Erin who worked today). We had the spur of the moment chance to get together with some of the Johnson clan, which was fun! We hadn't been able to really talk to them for a while.

Today also has another special meaning to us because.... it is our dear Mother's birthday!

                                           Happy Birthday Mother!!!!!

Us girls fixed the requested dinner using vegetables from our garden plot: Cucumber and tomatoe salad with stuffed zucchini... Fresh picked, garden grown tomatoes are so delicious!

Other than watching some old movies, we don't really have anything planned. I can see the fireworks on base from our window...

Tomorrow we are going to have the Johnson's over for brunch and the men are going to cut down one of our trees because it is so rotten.Sad day! 'Cause I love trees. There goes beautiful green and wonderful shade... (I stopped climbing that particular tree when Daddy cut of the branch perfect for sitting on and reading a book).

Oh well... today has been good... relaxing, fun, quiet... ahhhhhhhh, I need to go to bed!

  • Rain... an unexpected shower

Rain two days in a row!Ahhhh, so wonderful.
I love the smell of rain, fresh, growing, beautiful, green... and at certain times, I will play in the rain (or cover myself with mud... but that is a different story). Yeah, in Texas we have got to have mud fights instead of snow fights, right? Actually, dirt clod fights would be a little more realistic for this area (and more painful).

After Erin and I got off work ready to go home, we saw that it was pouring rain. So we decided to wait it out. Nevertheless, it didn't stop. Our only choice was to ride our bikes home in the pouring rain (also the water was collecting in the streets). A man said as we were leaving, "Have fun!" I said, "We will!". I mean really, how could you not?  And we did, in a soaked to the skin, crazy sort of way. I think it would have been hilarious to know what some of the other people who saw us were thinking... after mentally preparing myself to get soaked, I did have fun. Especially when a passing car drove by and gave us a mini shower. Erin and I started laughing, it was funny (we were already soaked) to have dirty, greasy water showered on us. But then most people say we are a little crazy.

I must say, though that this is the only time that Daddy's little plan of going without a vehicle for more than a year seems a little impractical. I don't always appreciate getting wet (so don't think you can pour a bucket of water over me at any given time...). But we shall all live and maybe (with a little complaining) learn to laugh at our situation. It has been fine so far...God is good.

The rain has stopped, the dirt is wet and it is fresh smelling. Now it is time for me to go and do other things...

  • This weekend's schedule includes... riding motorcyles!

To fill you all in on this weekend's motorcycle class... well, all three of us passed! Praise the Lord.  Of course it was great fun riding our bikes (non-motorized, just to clarify) both ways to 2 of the 3 classes... on Saturday we rode the Jeep ( a friends vehicle), which proved to be a good thing: our class let out at 5 p.m. and we had to be home and leaving our house to (go to a friend's graduation party) by 5:15 p.m. We definitely could not have done it on our bikes! Nevertheless, things went smoothly... I had a great time at the party not only seeing and talking to India, Jo and the rest of that cool family, but also getting to know and talk to people I did not know, making new friends! It was in such a sublime setting, especially as the sun went down... so beautiful.

Oh ya, it was kind of hilariously funny because... one of the results to being in the sun for 41/2-5 hrs. straight (plus in a parking lot) is well, either tanning or a sunburn. Although we applied sunblock a few times, I ended up having a beautiful red nose to compliment my outfit at the party...nothing I could do about it though.

I must say that the second day on the motorcycle was better than the first (kinda makes sense, right). Once you get the hang of using the clutch and throttle... it gets FUN! Of course, I need (what would amount to tons if you could weigh it) more practice to get good at it... but that's true with alot of things in life!

I am glad it is over now... I can finally rest... in the shade

  • A loving note...

One of my dear and (so affectionate) brothers taped this note on the girls' room door:

            " Sisters I found

         A Roach and caught

and put it in one of

         yalls shoes, I forgot which

          one.

        P.S.

It was alive and healthy "

How convenient. Isn't that so sweet! * voice dripping in sarcasm *   ..... Actually, it doesn't concern us that much, although we are checking our shoes. But c'mon now, if it was a live roach wouldn't it just make it's jolly way out of the shoe?

Daddy, Erin and myself are attending a motorcycle course from Friday evening through Sunday! Please pray that we all pass and it goes smoothly. We are actually just doing it so that more people in our family will be able to ride our scooter ( not counting the fact that we are really excited about getting this license), though Erin and I have higher hopes of getting an actual motorcycle b/c well, we like motorcycles better!
