POA wins best movie at Spaceys
At last night's Spacey Awards, Prisoner of Azkaban was dubbed the year's favourite movie, beating out The Incredibles, I, Robot, Shrek 2 and Spider-Man 2. The general manager and vice-president of the Space channel (which produces the Spaceys) admitted that Spider-Man 2 was favourite to win over POA. "We thought it (Potter) might skew a bit younger than the average Space viewer, but at the end of the day . . . that one was a fairly tight race."

After Star Wars, "few franchises left to geek out about"
We're cited as an example of "superfans" in an Associated Press article just about every newspaper in the country is running. They seem to think that just because we count down to the release of book 6 to the second that means we're obsessive... which is pretty true.
If there’s hope for a new legion of obsessives, it could come from Harry Potter. Just as “Star Wars” fans attend midnight premieres (apparently the designated hour of the superfan), Potter fans lines blocks for each new book at the witching hour.
One fan site, mugglenet.com, currently counts down the next installment, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” to the second.

Yates comments on OOTP hold-up
Today there was a small article in The Independent about the politics behind shooting certain scenes for the next Harry Potter installment. Right now Order of the Phoenix director David Yates needs to secure 17 different councils to shoot the scenes for the next movie, and some of them are not being cooperative.
"A highlight of the superhero's next film outing will (hopefully) see Potter, played by Daniel Radcliffe leading a high-speed broomstick chase, James Bond-style, down the Thames.
Unfortunately, the film's director, David Yates, who is currently masterminding pre-production, says that several local councils are refusing to play ball.
"So far, we have spent a lot of time on boats on the Thames," he tells me. "I want to do a great big wizard chase past the London landmarks and it is going to be very exciting, but it has not been easy to set up."
Yates has assigned the task of sorting all this out to his location manager over the next four months. Filming for OOTP is scheduled to begin next spring.
Thanks to Sue at TLC for the tip.

JKR: HBP 'leaks' easy to make up
Jo Rowling has updated the news section of her official site regarding the recent rumor that a manuscript of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had been leaked. This resulted in residents of a town where the book is being printed suddenly placing bets on a certain character dying. Says Jo:
Please remember that allegations of 'leaks' concerning deaths in 'Half-Blood Prince' are very easy to make. Any comment I make on such rumours would be a spoiler, so I'll just repeat: keep those barrels of salt handy.
She also states that she never posts on fan sites and urges fans not to be fooled by impostors.
In an update to the Rubbish Bin, Jo comments on a story entitled, "JKR has said that 'Half-Blood Prince' is her best book yet."

Pattinson, Ianevski speak
Empire Online had the good fortune to bump in to Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) and Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum) out and about on London's West End last night. Pattinson said:
"[Krum is] the guy who's actually playing, but I don't actually do any Quiddictch in the movie. I do a bit of talking about Quidditch, I guess."
He promised an even better film this time. "I think basically the characters have been developed pretty fully in the first three, and it's just going to take another turn into being more of a thriller, is more boom boom boom, to the climax. I think it's a much faster paced, action-y film than the others. I think that it's a little bit darker, and they kill off key characters. There's always going to be a little bit of a twist – killing someone is always a bit of a shock."
We even took the opportunity to pump him for information about Ralph Fiennes' role as He Who Must Not Be Named, Lord Voldemort. "I'm not actually allowed to say anything about it, but it is fantastic. That will be the most stunning sequence in the Potter series."
Thanks, Tracey, for the heads-up!

HBP manuscript leaked?
Recently, thousands of £50 bets have been placed on a certain character (who we won't name) dying in book 6. The bets have been placed by residents of Bungay, Suffolk, where the sixth book is being printed. Warren Lush of Ladbrokes said: "We weren't foolish enough to take the bets. There are obviously people out there who have read the manuscripts." Another chain of bookstores said it was "obvious" that a manuscript of HBP had been leaked and read.
UPDATE: We have just received the following email from Bloomsbury, the UK publisher of the books: J. K. Rowling has mentioned previously, in various situations, that any rumour, unless confirmed by herself personally, or by her publishers which are, but not limited to; Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, Scholastic Trade Books and Raincoast Publishing, is merely a rumour and should be treated as trivial.
We repeat: The security measures in Bungay are sufficient to ensure the prevention of any 'leaks'. SPOILER WARNING: Please keep in mind if you venture over to read these articles, or go in the comments for this news post, it will reveal significant rumors regarding the plot for HBP. Everything in both articles is of course rumored information, so if you don't want to know anything don't read them!
The story was originally published by The Sun, but more information can be found in an article by ThisisLondon. Dissendium.com has provided us with a transcript of the exclusive Sun article here.
Another betting company in the UK is receiving high bids on a certain character being named the Half-Blood Prince. The same spoiler rule applies in that this article also reveals the name of a character in question. Thanks to Dijares at HarryPottersPage.com for the tip.
