| No limit The idea that there is no limit to what we can do is freeing.. I'm talking about no limits in things that we genuinely want to do in life.. I'm not talking about 'oh, what if I won American Idol', or 'oh, how nice if I could win a gazillion dollars'.. I'm talking about stuff that you really care about with every ounce of your system.
Recently, I looked back at my life over the last 10 years, and made a comparison of where I was and where I am now. 10 years ago, I was a business major, wanting to make tons of money when I graduate. Get a high flying corporate job and be set for life. I didn't even know why I wanted that, it was just the thing 'to do'. 7 years ago, I worked in a factory like environment in an accounting firm, no doubt the pay was decent, the office was fancy, facing the sydney harbour, and we had friday night free-flowing drinks, but I really didn't know where I fit in. My ex boyfriend loved me, no doubt about that.. but he didn't think I was the hottest girl he ever saw... I know I am far far from that and I don't even care if the world thinks I'm butt ugly, but it is important that the love of your life thinks that. Don't you? Call me strange and delusional. Mmm..
Fast forward to 10 years later. I make my living making music. I live in one of the most gorgeous places in the world. I'm not super famous, I don't drive a fast car, I live in a tiny apartment, I don't have cable tv, actually... I don't have a car, and have no tv reception but gosh I'm happy as can be. The fact is I do what I care deeply about and adjust my life to ensure that this is possible. Just take a step forward each day in the direction you want. Took 10 years, it took lots of mistakes and heartaches. I still have them today. But its ok. I love every breath I take and am proud of this livelihood that I have been blessed with. Oh, and one more thing, my boyfriend tells me each and every day that I'm the hottest girl on earth. :) heee..... (big gigantic clown-faced grin).

Oh, and we just watched this: Bobby McFerrin, Chick Corea AND Jack DeJohnette at the SF Jazz Festival.
It was the most amazing and fun show I've ever been too!Mcferrin has superb command of his voice, and uses it to go everywhere - never ever letting go of his sense of JOY and PLAYFULNESS. Even Corea and DeJohnnette sang! We need to bring back that spirit of playfulness into jazz. Music should be about letting go.
