it's a girl!

say "hello" to the newest addition to the Shearer family ~

Friday, April 11, 2008

when will it end . . .
goodness, this PG seems like an eternal one. things are progressing, but still no regular contractions.
i am so tired. and delirious. (but that goes with the 9th month PG territory.)

39 weeks today.

*

we celebrated HH's 4th bday last week on april 3.

as is our custom, this is her last day being 3. (we forgot about it and had to get her in bed!) and her first day of being 4.

we had a family bday party. after the baby arrives, we'll have another party for her with friends.

no baby yet. life is very uncomfortable these days.
so much for the doctor's prediction of "you won't make it to next week's appointment," which is tomorrow afternoon. of course, the day is not over.

just not during the championship game tonight!

i saw a cardinal yesterday. could it be . . . spring??!!!

i'm still here.

baby update:
37.4 weeks
2+ cm/80%
we should have another shearer arriving any day.
a minor problem: HH's 4th bday is on april 3.
please, please Lord, don't let the baby come on Thursday!

MM bracket update:
i've pulled ahead in the shearer family bracket challenge.
clemson, uconn, and georgetown tripped me up, but two of my brackets are in the lead. looks like i'll be sipping some jamba juice in a week. (that's the prize for the winner.) i'm only number 357,431 on the espn.com bracket challenge, but oh well.

here are B and the girls filling out their brackets, with B and HH in the bottom pic.

taylor king is leaving duke. *sigh* not a surprise. he was a McDonald's all-american and #5 on california's high school all-time scoring list. i guess he can get more playing time somewhere else. duke has had a number of defections in recent years; guys in the same situation as king. what duke really needs is some big bodies added to the roster.

and how about stephen curry and davidson??!!! wow, were they fun to watch. we were hoping for an upset with kansas, but we're not entirely upset when KU won. will be a better match-up against UNC and has a better shot at beating them.
ABC, baby! (anyone But carolina) i'm thinking it will be memphis and unc in the final with memphis edging them out. hoping earnestly.

the women tourney has some good games tonight. looking forward to watching the Lady Vols and Candace Parker play.

*

H ran her first 5k today. she ran a 30:? (an apparent clock malfunction. will get official time from B, who also ran the race.). way to go H!
B has been training her for the past couple of weeks.

And here is our future marathoner (B only hopes), HH, in her inaugural training run. stretching first, so important.
(yes, that's SNOW on the ground!)

what a cutie.

nancy ortberg's book is excellent. easy to read, but keeps you thinking long after you're finished. definitely worth getting.

so, how's your bracket so far? on the espn leaderboard, all the best brackets have two mistakes--30 out of 2 million! wow. i'm kicking myself on a couple of my picks. i had this inkling that Clemson wouldn't beat Villanova. Clemson played tremendously in the ACC tourney, but i had a feeling they peaked. plus, villanova is a good team and had something to prove.

everyone in our family filled out a bracket, including 3-year old HH. i'll have to put up the pics-pretty cute. our best ones are 260, compared to the 300 leaders. not bad.

AND what happened in Tampa??? that Drake/W. Kentucky was an amazing finish. now, THAT'S the Madness we expect in March.

Thank God for Gerald Henderson.

my lamentation:
what is going on with my Dukies? They are a different team now. Something has happened to them. they aren't playing the same basketball as the first two-thirds of the season. where's the aggressiveness? the swarming defense? the tenacity? the confidence? it's slipped away. we'll see how they play against west virginia today. i want them to win, but will not be surprised if they do not. the first four minutes of each half will determine the outcome.

contractions are starting to pick up in intensity and frequency. the doc checked me last tuesday and i'm dilated 2 cm. first baby--not much concern. the fourth one is a different story. hoping the baby will wait until after sunday school tomorrow, so i can finish the 8-week class i'm teaching. would like to finish and an easter baby would be nice.

we looked through names last night. again. we think we've found her name. we'll let you know after the birth.

*

WHAT is UP with this SNOW STORM at the END of MARCH??!!!!

*
UPDATE: Duke lost. not really surprising. they went MIA in the 2d half and WV outplayed them.
so, now Duke fans will have to endure 7-8 months of an anti-Duke media bashing the program and taking shots at Coach K, their lack of "talent," the current state of Duke basketball, ad nauseam. it's a tough road when you have such a successful basketball program.

*

btw-who do you think is the most annoying college basketball analyst?
my vote goes to doug gottlieb.
