| OKRF 2006So many memories of this festival season, so much raw emotion... Faire (In my mind, it will always be Faire) is an amazing place, doubly so because I know I helped, in some small measure, make it so. I didn't cry at closing gate on Monday, as did most, but I felt no less sadness. I don't really think it's fully sunk in yet, that it's gone for another year. I mean, it just can't be, right?
But our family will go our seperate ways, to rest and recuperate and plan and rehearse. The irony, I think, is that by becoming people we aren't, by doing things we wouldn't normally do, we learn a little bit more about ourselves. I know I learned a lot.
So, stolen from Rowan GoLightly (of Queen's Gambit) (Who I think stole it from some Scarby folk, yes?): What I Learned:
1) Rope sandals don't necessarily provide the traction you come to expect from them at all times.
2) Wearing a kilt isn't a good wardrobe choice for me; I spend too much time in the air.
3) Specialized Dance Team members really are in high demand throughout Castleton (Well, I knew it, though I'd never seen it demonstrated quite so well)
4) I don't know Amreican Flag Display Protocol as well as I thought I did. (Though I'd still wager I know it better than most people who display them on a regular basis.)
5) Fairydust is some slippery stuff.
6) Wingless fairies don't appreciate the salutation "Live long and prosper" as much as you think they will.
7) It's a fine line between "getting stuck at the treehouse all day" and "expected to be everywhere at once."
8) Stalkers come from the most unexpected places. Like preschool.
9) There is, believe it or not, way too much sexual innuendo at faire.
10) For a place with so much sexual innuendo, it's amazing how quickly people will jump for the "This is a family show!" moral high ground when *you* make a dirty joke.
11) There are far too many of you tall people at faire.
12) The garrison may be too slow to catch you, but a mercenary with a gun, well, that's another story. Best go quietly, or think fast and talk faster.
13) Her majesty may be overbearing sometimes, but she's a sucker for a kilted man jumping rope.
14) Marriages of convenience aren't always a bad thing.
15) Multiple dance shows make the day go faster.
16) Being seen by the right people while giving a lukewarm performance will, at times, be better for your reputation than giving a stellar performance for one person.
17) Having said that, what *you* think is a stellar performance or a lukewarm performance and what everyone else thinks are usually two very different things.
18) Don't bother the musicians while they're playing unless absolutely necessary.
19) Regular (Non-dancer) cast who are familiar with the dances are worth their weight in gold.
20) No one cares if you don't know how to spell KAY-LEE.
21) Ceilidh is at least as much fun to dance at as the Masked Ball. Probably more.
22) I have no idea how to 'pace myself', and probably wouldn't even if I did know how.
23) Pub Sing is more fun when you're dancing.
24) It is entirely your own fault if you're not enjoying yourself. Okay, maybe not, but it is much more in your own hands than anyone else's.
25) The most desireable traits a patron can have are the same traits to look for in a performer- a sense of humor and the desire to be a good sport.
26) Rules do not apply unilaterally.
27) When the shit hits the fan, it will not spread evenly.
28) We all learn "Yes, and" for a reason. Apparently, some people learn it better than others.
29) Four weekends isn't nearly enough. Four weekends and a day is a bit too much.
30) Outstanding Castletonians aren't always.
31) Mead tastes pretty darn good.
32) Aluminum chainmail leaves black discoloration directly proportional to the amout you sweat on it.
33) Your role is as big as you make it. | | |
| Well, well. Looks like someone's been unproductive. Guess who? No, c'mon. Guess. Me!
Though last night I had an excuse. I'll skip the gory details, butI've
never been taht sick before in my entire life. I haven't even come
close to that anytime within the past decade, at least.
And I have yet to:
Get my car back from the shop (Although I did take it two days ago)
Get my cloak material to Nancy
Enroll in OSU Okmulgee
fill out this year's FAFSA
for that matter, do this year's taxes
Fix my bicycle so I can use it to help me get back in shape
Catch up on my fic writing
And anything else I've forgotten...

| Well, well. First post of a
superfluous new chronicle. If you haven't glanced to your left, I'm a
student, in every sense of the word. Ironically, I'm also a
professional teacher. I guess the best way to use this is to keep track
of my personal goals. I've decided recently that my ambitions are
actually worth something, and I'm long overdue to make something of
myself. So in the coming months, I'll list things I've done, things I
want to do, and things I've learned along the way. This includes my
goal of figuring out how the hell I'm going to get into OSU Okmulgee
for the fall semester, and how the hell I'm going to fund it.
On a totally different note, I think I'll try being social with this
chronicle in hopes that it doesn't turn first into a vain cesspool of
self-loathing and/or self-congratulation, and then into waster
hard-drive space somewhere (In other words, this, like all of my 'net
presence thus far, is open-ended. I want others, hopefully those I call
or would like to call friend, to see, read, and care about this space.
I want it to have purpose.) In that spirit, Hello, all the people I
know who've bothered reading thus far. Be merciful and friendly, and
I'll return the favor, eh?
Well, That's enough outta me. I've got little children to beat up.
