So my life has been pretty full of little kids lately. From the little girl I'm watching right now to the 12 kiddos between 18 and 24 months in the nursery at church (one little guy had lots of fun sticking his face between the rungs on the side of the rocking chair and saying "heh-yoh" each time. ).

I'm going to miss trying to decifer if this two-year-old is saying "giddy-up" or "Jacob" and discussing such deep topics as if toes can eat carrots (she thinks they can ). And I'm really gonna miss "my kids" - the baby is the cutest little fellow and the rest of them are growing so much that it seems a pity to miss 4 months of their lives.

But there are some pretty significant positives to going back to school that are making me very excited, so oh well.

cya soon. :)

Thursday, June 28, 2007

I used to like rain. It was nice. Now I don't like rain. I miss sunny days. I miss seeing the stars and swimming and sitting on the roof and walking and all those things that are generally done when it's not raining.

I don't think my car likes rain either. Last Saturday I went out to breakfast with a friend before work and locked my keys in my car. On Tuesday, when I was driving to work there, was so much water on the streets that my car decided it had had enough and quit. Thankfully, after thinking about life on the side of the road for a little while it recovered. Today, I accidentally left the lights on when I parked at work and the car died. So I got to jump my car in the rain.

But I like my job. I get to serve lots of tea and yummy food. Someday I'm going to give in and buy myself a piece of the chocolate fudge cake. And I came home to 7 little kids at my house today. That was fun.

Other Happy Things...

So I need a name for our pool vacuum.

The funky little guy like to try to run up the walls of the pool and spray people sitting on the side with his tails. He's quite amusing to watch and quite unpredictable too. Never can be sure when he's going to pop up spitting water like a maniac...he reminds me of a spunky side-kick character (like a Tristin... ).

I remember
holding her when she was barely 4 hours old and marveling at how tiny
and perfect she was. I remember her learning to say my name. I loved
seeing the look of surprise and delight on her face when I walked into
her house last week.

And now she's four...when did that happen?

I've decided that I love spring and flowers and my friends and perching
and getting lost and studying (or "not" arguing) outside and walking
outside and eating outside.

I also like studying with fun people.

I've decided that therapists and gargoyles are great people to have
adventures with. Who else would go metro car hopping, race up the down
escalators, tramp about in the freezing cold for hours looking for
food, end up 2 blocks away from where we started, and go to McDonald's
(-:O? Oh yeah - and there was a concert in there somewhere.

And I like walking in the rain.
shocking experience to run into somebody in one of the end-of-the-hall
stairwells.

In other news, I've discovered that I like:
- metro surfing
- driving on Rock Creek Parkway
- my Physics professor
- going down the up escalator
- walking for hours in the freezing cold with Christin and Kristin
- chapel, and scarves, and taking notes sideways
- dinner
- being done with homework
- poking and smacking penguins
- my friends

I haven't finished deciding what I think about writing discussion questions...
feeling rather stingy so I'm not going to allow any of you that
pleasure either - direct any complaints to the Coyne). I know that I
very rarely update again so soon, but I figured it wouldn't hurt this
once.

I've been working on both accomplishing and expanding my to-do list.

I've gone walking in the dark and looked at the stars (I found Orion - he has such a nice, bright belt. ). I've been out on the roof and looked at the stars and the white clouds
against the dark sky - by myself at first, but before long my parents
and sisters joined me. I also discovered that there are some great climbing trees in my backyard.

And I got to revisit one of my favorite childhood traditions of having a Laura Ingall's Night.
On such nights we used to turn off all the lights in the house and
build a big fire in the fireplace, then we'd make believe that we were
living "back then." We'd use candles, and, to make it seem like we had
an outhouse, we'd go out the garage door and around to the front door
to get to the bathroom - all by candlelight. After an evening of
playing games or reading by the firelight, we'd camp out for the night
on the floor.

So
my sister had the splendid idea on Tuesday of having another Laura
Ingall's Night. Though in the end, we called it a "selective" Laura
Ingall's Night
because I don't think they had DVD's "back then" and we didn't get to
have the big fireplace fire. But we did traipse around with candles,
and we drank hot chocolate (with whipped cream ),
and we slept in the living room after watching the last half of the
long Pride and Prejudice (and I think I was on the internet for a while
somewhere in there ). It was lovely.

And now there's only four days left. I think I'll have to revisit the
roof (if all the freezing rain we're supposed to get tomorrow is gone
before I leave) and climb the trees again . . . and then there's still
people to see, shoes to buy, packing to do, and a semester to get ready
for.

I like my life.

And just because: "We're amazingly stupid." - the grandest unnamed
