Flood Update

::Surrounding Areas::

So here is what we hear from neighbors near our grandparent's house. There is a historical covered bridge that has been washed away by flood waters. The the road (aka the black top) has been washed away 2 houses down from us. The black top has landed in another neighbor's yard. From what i hear it kinda looks like a landing strip because the yellow lines are still on the pavement.

::Our House::

No one has actually gone into the house so all we can do is guess. Friends who went to walk around the area say that there had to be 3-5 feet of water in everyone's first floor. So based on how our house is situated there must have been 3-4 feet of water in our house. All of the furniture on the back porch has been turned over and moved and covered in mud. Our compost heap is most likely destroyed and the contents spread all over the yard. There are so many antiques and memories that might be destroyed its hard to believe. Remember its not clean water on everything, its dirty water. With mud, dirt, disease and possibly dead animals floating through it. (yuck!)

So tomorrow we are buying knee high boots and sunday we are preparing to venture into the flood zone. Patrick is coming along. We need an extra man in this situation so I'm glad he will be there.

Thats all for now!

Unfortuneately I now have news in my life. I don't usually worry about rain and flooding and such cuz we are on a hill but now I have reason to worry.

In 1972 there was Hurricane Agnes. It caused massive flooding kinda like now. My grandparent's summer house has a creek near it. During Agnes the basement flooded and water came up to the door sills on the first floor. The basement isn't too hard to clean up but they were lucky that the first floor wasn't affected.

Now it is 2006. According to a neighbor 2 houses away from my grandparent's house this flooding is worse than Agnes in '72. The road to my grandparent's house is closed. The water is flowing over the bridge instead of under it. The road is completely flooded. We are sure that the basement is flooded. Now we are afraid that the first floor is affected.

I think fear is what scares us the most. If there is standing water on the first floor then the fridge is gone, stove...gone. Antique furniture that has been in the family for years and years...gone. The crappy overstuffed chairs, gone! This house is over 200 years old, its been in the family several generations. The house is our biggest concern but there are other things to think about too. The barn is certainly flooded, we have at least 2 lawn mowers that are destroyed by now. The outhouse is prolly messed up (think about it.....its disgusting).

We hope and pray that its really not that bad but any water on the first floor of the house is bad. All we can do it wait til the water goes down. We are planning on going up on Sunday to start work and we will be there til the 6th (so much for a fun fourth). I'll update this when i have more news.

I'm home now Everyone in the musical did an AWESOME job. I really enjoyed the show both nights that I saw it. Patrick saw it on Friday while he was here visiting and he liked the musical too.

Now that I'm back here in Carlisle my life is a lot less exciting. I'm so bored I could do homework lol. I hope everyone is doing alright.

Leave a comment! <3 Sara *muah*

I <3 my friends up here. So last night I was hanging out with Pat and his brothers and I got a phone call. I went into the hall to answer it and it was Amanda Goff. Amanda and her friends are all juniors. She and her friends (Erin, Brittany and Susan) are trying to rent an apartment for next semester. Amanda wanted to know if I would be interested in moving in with them!!! If one of the other girls ends up backing out they wanted to know if I was interested in moving in. I think its so cool that they would ask me. So tomorrow I'm going with them to check out the apartment that they would really like to live in. Its only a block or two away from campus and living in an apartment is cheaper than living on campus. I just thought I'd share that latest piece of news with you all!

9 days til The Boyfriend starts!

  9 days til Carlisle meets my boyfriend!!

    9 days til I see my family again!!!

       9 days til Spring Break!!!!

          I think I can survive til then. I soooo need a break.
