adios.

Monday, October 24, 2005

He's Alive! I've had so many people ask me why my xanga never gets updated, that I thought it would be a good idea to please the masses.

First things first - little story about Joshua here.

We had some friends over last night that have a little girl named Sophie. She's half Korean and half caucasion, and is very very cute. I'm not sure if Joshua thought so as well, or if he was just excited to have a new kid around to play with, but he seemed pretty enthralled with her. Anyhow, we're potty training Josh right now, and so after dinner as we were talking, I told Josh to head to the bathroom so he could use the "facilities". As he was going, he was walking and trying to talk and look at Sophie all at the same time - when you aren't watching where your going, you tend to run into things. Josh rammed his poor little face right into the corner of the wall because he wasn't watching where he was going. Once I knew he was o.k., all I could do was laugh - it looked like a scene out of Tommy Boy. So anyways - there's a little something about my cute kids.

For those of you jr. highers who are reading this - i'm curious what you thought about Sundays message on bringing heaven or hell to earth. The whole concept has really become real for me these last couple of weeks, and it's something i'm trying to work on in my own life. Just wondering if you had any thoughts.

Gotta jet for now, but i'll try to update more often....

Thursday, March 03, 2005

Well, apparently i'll only update this thing once every month or so at the rate i'm going. I did however just get back from my Kentucky golf trip with my brother! TONS OF FUN!!! Awesome golf courses, good weather, fun times, and some not so good golf from either of us...oh well, still sunny and warmer than Michigan.

So when we got to Kentucky, we were gonna stay with my brothers old friend from college. It took us forever to get ahold of him, but we finally did. So, we showed up at around 10:00 Thursday night and went in. His wife was home (Don works the late shift), and she is definitely a native Kentuckian...If only you could hear the accent in my head right now.....WOW! So they have these two HUGE dogs - 180 lbs and 140 lbs - she's still a puppy too...

Have you ever seen Beethoven the movie? Turner and Hooch? Needless to say, I got slobbered on ALL OVER THE PLACE!! It was SOOOOO nasty! After getting slobbered on, we got to watch her feed the pet boa constricter she has....CRICKET! That poor mouse didn't have a chance...

You bet, swallowed it whole - one of the most disturbing thngs i've ever seen. I think next year we may spring for the hotel room and pay the extra money - I slept like 2 hours that night because I kept dreaming I was in the animal kingdom, and when I wasn't scared out of my mind, I couldn't get passed the fact that I was laying on a bed covered in dog hair, and dried doggy drool...

The next night after golf, we took them out for dinner like we always do traditionally to say thank you for letting us stay with them. Oh yeah, they requested the Chinese buffet....cricket, cricket, cricket.....there is NOTHING worse than a BAD chinese buffet at 9:00 p.m. I take that back, there is one thing worse - a bad chinese buffet at 9:00 p.m.with a woman who sounds like she came straight off the beverly hill billies and who would rather talk about her 2 monstrous drooling dogs than she would about real human topics of conversation like say - the weather, politics, pop culture, movies, or even Michael Jackson's trial...o.k. - maybe not that - but you get the general idea.

Needless to say, we had an awesome time, but if I never see one of those dogs again, or have to watch a snake swallow a mouse whole - it'll be too soon...

Friday, January 28, 2005

Apparently I don't update this very often...

Been planning my brother and I's annual golf trip to Kentucky at the end of February. We're stoked about it. Once a year we get together and go away for a weekend just the two of us to play golf. It's an awesome time for my bro and I - and I can't wait. Not only are we playing two of the nicest golf courses in Kentucky...but we really have a good chance to talk and hang out without kids, etc. I will however miss the family very much.

Gotta jet - almost time for our trinity worship night. Hope to see you guys there...

Thursday, December 23, 2004

Adventures in the animal kingdom........

So last night, we had some of the junior high girls over to our place...
WOW!!!! Any time you put Betsy, Chloe, Hannah, Allison, and Taylor in the same room, at the same time, with Children or any sort of substance with sugar...........it becomes the "animal kingdom"!

My ears still haven't recovered - but it was a great time none the less.
Hope y'all (Thanks for the correction Katie D) have a great Christmas - see you Sunday morning.

Wednesday, December 22, 2004

Alright - i'm sorry. Everybody's been yellin' at me for not posting a new entry, so here it comes. I will say in my defense though - I HAVEN'T HAD A COMPUTER!!! for like 3 weeks, so thats why I haven't posted....alright, enough excuses.

Aaron and I are officially foosball champions of the world once again!!!! He won't brag about it - but I will = ). Definitely won in champion like fashion - not even a tie breaker game - we just handed it to them.

So on Wed. night last week - our last shack - we played some outdoor games in the freezing cold weather. If you read Karen's xanga - you read about why you should not wear sandals in 10 degree weather to the Shack- she was cold to say the least. Cody was being a little wiley as usual and had an ice ball thrown at him....or so he thought...actually it was one of the eggs we were using! He had it all over his back, and didn't know it the whole night....good times.

I should go for now, but here's hoping for about 3 feet of snow tonight and tomorrow! If it's gonna be single digits cold - it might as well be snowy too!

Enjoy your break ya'll!

Tuesday, December 07, 2004
...and then there was our trip to G.R....

So Aaron and I went to G.R. yesterday to see our friend Kelly's new Beaners. That was all good and it was cool to see her again - but the highlight of my day came right after that...

For all of you who think Aarons hair looks really cool - you didn't spend the 2 HOURS in the SALON with me while they swooned over him and put who know's how many funny cap looking things on his head so they could color his hair....
the metamorphosis from cool guy to old woman who smells bad and wants to be an age other than her own was almost instantaneous...=) There he was, sitting there with a funny see through cap strapped to his head and some lady taking clump after clump of his hair and painting hair color into it - wish you could have seen it, he looked something special...

So there you have it - give Aaron as much grief as possible when you see him next time!

Thursday, December 02, 2004
...There is always a reckoning, always...

So a couple of guys at the Shack last night decided that they were gonne be tough guys...
Andrew and Sam (waverly students - I always knew there was something shady about them) decided that they were gonna put snow down my shirt while I was talking with a couple of the other students. Bad idea. Apparently, they also decided to do the same to "the Fam" - also not a good idea. So, true to the youth pastor code of conduct, there was a reckoning...

You bet - we picked them up, flailing about like little school girls, and promptly tossed them into the slushy pit outside the youth ministry entrance. At one point, Mike may have even tossed some ice chips down the back of one of their pants....bet that felt great...

Moral of the story is....
Youth Pastors ALWAYS win. You may win a battle here or there, but we will ALWAYS win the war. You forget - we have much more experience in prank tactics and torture techiniques - do to our shady adolescence and michigan militia upbringings.

We win again...

Tuesday, November 30, 2004

You bet...Avery Julianne Wayner is officially here! She decided to come on Thanksgiving Morning around 3:45 - not so good for the sleep factor, but i'm stoked to have her here finally! Needless to say, we haven't been getting as much sleep as we'd like at night and i'm mostly wandering around aimlessly during the day now, but eventually this too will change.

Some how when i called my brother to tell him that Avery had arrived, he decided that we had had a little baby boy named Abel...not so much! So he proceeds to tell his whole family that we had a baby boy, and when they all got together for Thanksgiving meal, the rest of my family has to inform him that we had a little girl named Avery....he was a little embarassed.

Gotta jet for now

Joel
