  • Memorable Quotes from IYC 517
While studying abroad in Taiwan last fall, my roomie at National Taiwan University was Jessica, and we kept a quote book of awesome/stupid shit said in our room. Just reading them again made me laugh so hard--definitely what I needed before heading into my last final of college in a couple hours. Man, I really miss our dorm room...so many great memories. These quotes only scratch the surface of all the fun/hilarious times we had. =)

Helen: "I want a 'beep beep' thing for my bike."

    Jess: "LET'S TAKE A NAP!"
Helen: *wakes up from her chair* "HUH?!"

Kelly: "Maybe you wanted to pour out your heart and I was your fountain."

Helen: "Hey Jess, what is this stuff?"
Jess: "...WHY THE FUCK DID YOU BUY IT THEN?!"

Helen: "get cho mao bi outta my cup yo"
Jess: "wtv betch u love it when my mao bi is all up in yo cup, dun even try to deny it bb."

Stephen: "I hate him. So like at Relay for Life he was like 'I'm going to cut the power' so I was like 'fuck you!'"

Jess: "Hey! It says, 'An Attractive Lady!'"
    *5 hours later*
Jess: "Hey! It says 'An Attractive Lady!'"

Jess: "What did we do last weekend? WHAT DID WE DO LAST WEEKEND?! I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT WE DID LAST WEEKEND!"
Helen: "Um...umm...I don't think there was anything last weekend...."
Jess: "OHH!!! JAY CHOU! JAY CHOU!!!"

  • Trade (UCLA grads): one L&S commencement ticket for International Institute commencement tickets
I have one L&S guest ticket to spare, BUT I am looking for International Institute guest tickets. I'll give the L&S ticket to the person who can offer me the most International Institute tickets. Please don't e-mail me unless you actually have tickets to offer me--not money or your personal story. Thanks!

  • Hiding
I've been a bit of a recluse lately. It was even happening during winter quarter, but it got a lot worse this quarter. There are still a few people that I talk to and hang out with on a regular basis, but I've distanced myself from almost everyone else. The reality of graduation is kicking up a mixture of emotions that make me want to hide from it all. It's also putting me into a very negative state of mind as far as friendships go. Taiwan is far away, and at this point I honestly have little faith in maintaining some of the connections I've made over the years. Being there in the fall already gave me a sense of that, being physically separated from friends. Perhaps I'm trying not to put my friends on high pedestals because there will be those who inevitably won't stay up there--and if nothing else I've learned that the more I care about a friend, the more it hurts when s/he betrays or walks out on me.

I try to drown my thoughts in episode after episode of Law & Order: SVU and several other shows. I escape from L.A. almost every week, partly to spend what little time we have left together with my sweetie, and partly to get away from the friends, the apartment, the life I've become used to. Being here reminds me of the fact that I have to move out of my apartment of three years...in less than two months. Just mental preparation for leaving--nothing wrong with that, right?

In my last month or so on EAP, I honestly did not want to come back to the U.S. I wanted to just stay in Taiwan. Maybe I knew that I would overthink things during these last two quarters and not know what to do with all the thoughts. One thing's for sure--I haven't been sharing them with other people.

Well, I don't regret coming back because there have been some great memories and good times with friends. I'm not gonna go on a memory-making spree though. No big sad goodbyes with a bunch of people because chances are I'll never talk to half of them again. Pessimistic? Yeah. Realistic? Yeah. Planning for a nice, quiet move with probably a few emotional farewells.

It's still a few months away, but it feels so close.

[As a side note to my lovely friends who are always worried that my negative thoughts on friendships are directed at you...they're not. Chill, stop being paranoid. I love you.]
