Todays news from the birdroom.  A few shots of the new Silver Javas a week after fledging.

This shot has one of the parent Silver Java in with the chicks.

I personally think that the chicks are really beautiful with the all Silver body and the black beak.

The image below is a nest that has one Gray Crown Mannikin chick that hatched around 5 days before the Chestnut Self Society chicks that are from a pair of Chestnut Self Societies that were incubating 6 Gray Crown eggs.  Obviously only one Gray Crown egg was fertile.  They now have four chicks of their own and the Gray Crown.  All are doing well.

Today I would like to show a new clutch of American Fawn Self Societies.  They are starting to eat on their own now and I have already taken the male parent from the clutch because he was pulling feathers from the chicks.

A shot of the five fledges and the Hen parent bird on the far left of the image.

The next few shots are of my new breeding cages and general small flights.  I still have a lot of work to do on them.  They will have metal deviders and metal pan bases.

This is a shot of the front of the breeder cages.  They are double cages and will have metal deviders that can be removed as well as metal pan bases.  The upper openings are for the wood breeding boxes.

Another shot of the breeding cages.  The total size is 30" Wide x 24" Deep x 17" High.

The nex t couple shots are of the flight cages.

These flight cages will also have metal deviders and bases.  They will stack 3 or 4 high and all the cages will have daylight lighting fixtures behind them.

flight 2

Another shot of the flight cages.  They are 4' Wide x 24" Deep x 17" High.  These are small flights and will be used to house small numbers of color devided Java and Societies as well as Mannikin.  I have also just added Gouldian to my flock.  I raised Gouldian around 25 years ago and decided to give it a try again.

Once again I have been rather lax in getting information out.  A lot of shows in the fall and I am just starting to breed my Java.  Right now I have four pair set up and will get another two pair set up next week.  The first hatch is from a pair of Silver Java.  The male is from my breeding and the hen is a bird that I got recently from Jim Heffernan.  Here are a couple shots of the youngsters.  Six eggs and four hatched.  They are around a week old right now.

I also just received a new Cream (Opal Isabel) from Jim.  This is the first Cream bred in the U.S.A..  Jim used his Silvers and my Fawns to produce this bird.  You need two double split Normals to produce the Opal Isabel which is the Silver version of Cream.  Jim and I now have pairs set up to produce this mutation.  I really love it and I hope you will also.
