  • the Beauty of Warwick--Photo format

The view from the back porch of the camp lodge...a postcard each day!
Can you see the sleeping giant?

and here's the sunset...each night is a new painting. Here's two examples:

and now into the woods...along the way up the Lookout Trail, you will encounter this beautiful piece of history.

While its been said this is where the witch of the forest cooks the children she finds, no one really has any idea why is here or even what it actually is...
Keep hiking, up up up!  Lookout point serves as the highest point on property at a whopping 1, 107 ft.  Here is a view from the top.  If you want to improve the look of your butt, climb this trail each morning.  For added fun, go on a practice "missing camper mission." (AKA what we would do if there were ever a lost camper.)  You have 30 mins to go up and get back down before they send out a search party for you and your partner also....trust me, you will be tired, sweaty, and panting when you get done....and hope you make it on time.

Lastly, along the Stream Trail (yes, they are highly creative in the naming of their trails) you will encounter this beautiful location:

However, if you are rushed for time and have to go "as the crow flies" through the woods to get back to camp from your geocashing adventures, you will have to scale down this awesome natural wall--an unintentional teambuilder along the way.
    close up...just across the stream.
a bit further away, (but we were in a hurry, so no chance to get a really god photo of it.  sorry.)  it was about 15 ft. i would say?
Thanks for reading everyone!  i love your comments!!!! its such a joy to know others read this and I am able to share my experiences!

  • We went on a 2 hour hike yesterday.  We could chose the faster paced or the slow paced and I wanted to see lots of the woods and thought I might get bored on the slower one...so, I went for the fast one. 7 of us headed out behind our leader who has the energy of a first grader and never tires...

At the time I thought that may have been a bad choice, but looking back now, I feel really proud of myself that I kept up and completed it all without complaint all along the way!

We saw many beautiful sites and found many trails covered by the fallen trees and overgrowth of the year as the paths have not yet been cleared.  This Iowan was impressed by the beauty of the mountainous landscapes and the rivers.
I know it sounds cheesy, but there is beauty all around me.
It was a fun adventure and at times took a lot of team work.
It was very slick in many places due to the rain of the night before. We found about 4 of these little friends along the way and I even found one of the geocashes.  Hooray for me!

By this point, I think all of us were ready to be done, but none of us mentioned it and none of us looked tired to the others, so we continued with our tireless leader when he finished the story of the troll.  We again began the speed hiking until I got a cut that bled into my shoe .

We all headed back with scraped up legs from all the undergrowth and thorn bushes but with proud spirits of the amount of land we covered.  In retrospect, I think much of it was uphill...work those gluts!

  • I've arrived!

and here's my awesome pick-up sign!

while the people are all gone, it was okay cuz they called and told me they would be late...got stuck in traffic.  More to come, but we're off to a fun little trip to the mall perhaps?  I'm not real sure, just playing tag-along...

  • And I'm off...

for another adventure!  New York will never be ready for this Iowa girl...or many that's the other way around...

I appreciate your prayers as I head out!  Sorry, posts won't be as often...(not that they were that often) as I will likely have limited internet access.  Thanks for reading!!

  • couch potatoes...of varying species

Apparently it was a lazy, rainy day that was just too much for these two.  I think I can see the fat bulges on Patches (...all she does is eat and sleep) and my little bro is lounging quite well also. I believe he just finished a dish of ice cream...(hence the friendly fat cat on the lap...)

I still think the picture is adorable!  Must have been an exciting gardening show!
p.s. I'm really not obsessed with cats...apparently they are my only entertainment the past few days...haha
  • somehow I get the picture that my cat wants to go to NY with me...

he passed out in my luggage for the entire day yesterday.  wait, no.  he got up to get some meat while i made my sandwich...and those begging eyes...yeah, he got a piece of meat.  and went back to sleep in my luggage. you Rascal you.

  • Barefoot with Friends

There's nothing better than spending a weekend with friends with whom you can be yourself.  Through the laughter spawned from each other's quirkiness, stories, and spontaneity, the depth of friendship grew, even after poor communication and distance apart through the college years.  As we each head our separate ways and we each shed tears, knowing this is likely our last weekend together with all of us, it was a beautiful way to spend the weekend--laughing with (and at) each other for hours.  Soon I will leave for NY, one will leave for Creston to be a teacher who will inspire and change the world, and one waits patiently for interviews as a dental hygienist, not for the money (like her classmates,) but because she really wants to help people.  These two women are some of the most beautiful women I know--inside and out.  I only wish they'd see it the way I do.

Sorry, but I have to post these song lyrics in regards to our lives since college...and besides, its my blog anyway! if I wanna be sentimental, I can. I love to see how we've grown and see that our friendship is strong enough to last at least the 4 yrs of college--which is a lot of changes and growth.  You're different now, but so is our friendship.
    I saw you today
    My familiar stranger
    Everything's changed
    You have come so far
    You're different now
Would you go back, would you want to anyhow

    Chorus: Say goodbye, say goodbye
To the you I knew before
Say hello, say hello to a new beginning
    Say goodbye, say goodbye
To the you I knew before
    This is your genesis

    Face to face
    The present and past collide
    And it's no mistake
I see the future is in your eyes
    You seem so free
Like nothing's ever gonna keep you down

    You're different now
    You're different somehow
    You're different now

    Say goodbye, say goodbye

I'm excited to see the next chapter of our lives begin.

  • The mystery at the birdfeeder...

Can you figure it out?  At our feeder there was this bird outside our window.  My dad has identification books, but we can't seem to find one that actually fits this bird.  The closest I've found is an Audubon Oriole (immature), but they're only found in TX...I'm in Iowa, so I'm not so sure... It was eating the suet that downy woodpeckers and starlings have eaten (if that helps identify it).  Thanks for your help!  (or at least for looking at the interesting fellow)

It's a good shot, so it should be easy to identify...but..alas I cannot. If anyone you know is into bird identification, please send them here!

    Let the contest begin!

  • I'm back...

After getting frustrated and boycotting xanga for a few days, I'm back.  i tried to upload this awesome video i made of my live fish feeding to my turtles...the jist of it? my turtles are fat.  the fish are fast.  5 days later, there are still 3 out of 6 fish still swimming in the tank, alive as ever.  ...in fact, the fish didn't even begin to dissapear until at least 24 hours later...needless to say, the fish feed was rather drab and i gave up watching.  but i got some good attempts on camera...and made them into a short video...that i couldn't get to upload.  this was all after video tapping my cat's attempt to eat the fish in the bag from the pet store while it was on the couch waiting for me to get the tank ready for the fish...

i tried 5 times in the first day to upload and 2 times the next, even letting it load overnight both nights....or not load as my case was.  anyway...I'm back.

and I got a haircut.  4 inches off.  feels like i lost ten pounds! ...but I'm sure 'll miss it in the morning!
    Before:

(sorry the ponytail isn't really ideal for these shots, but...i was a bit grunge...a lot a bit) and i forgot to do it until I was almost in the chair, sorry folks!)
    After:

(these shots don't really show the layering that well, but i was taking the photo myself...and then my dad helped me, and he didn't really understand why i was taking a back shot...)
My cousin and I actually got them together...sorta.  She got a highlight, I got the cut.  But it was good cousin bonding time (this is the after shot)
