Well...

Today is the day and what I thought might happen actually has - it's time to vote and I still haven't decided. So I guess, for now, I'm not voting. I thought I would. But I really can't think of a good reason to vote for any of the candidates, so, till November, it looks like I won't be participating in the election.

2007 in Review - edited slightly from LiveJournal

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Traveled alone...traveled with a group of people I hadn't known for very long (my then-fiance and his siblings), and got married...

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
You know, I'm pretty sure I was hopeful that I would get married...and I did get married. But that's not really a good New Year's resolution.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth or get pregnant?
Well, I don't think so...but, out three out of four couples I've seen get married this year are expecting, I believe...

4. Did anyone close to you get married?
Joshua Van Vleet did...and so did I - can't get much closer than that.

5. Did anyone close to you die?
My 19 y.o. cousin was killed in Iraq in April. Now my almost 23 y.o. brother is going to be deployed there this coming April. [All the other deaths haven't been as close, but I think I've attended at least as many funerals as weddings this last year...you know it's bad when you start recognizing the people from multiple funeral homes.]

6. Travel?
Colorado, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri...that about sums it up.

7. Did you move anywhere?
Sorta...I moved from my parents' home a couple blocks away to my husband's apartment. I don't think I know of anyone else who made such a short move at the point of getting married.

8. What was the best month?
September was when I got married and finally quit having to say goodbye to my sweetheart at night, but...October was the best month because he didn't have a job and I wasn't spending too much time at work.

9. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
I'd really like a baby.

10. What date(s) from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
2/8: Met my husband's family; 2/9: Got engaged; 9/22 Got married.

11. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I really don't know. I'd say maintaining my sanity in the midst of all the change, but I'm not really sure I have.

12. What was your biggest failure?
Focusing too much on my failures?

13. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Chicken pox, just six weeks before my wedding...I don't recommend that, btw. I've cried more than once over my pock-marked body. Most of the scars are located where my clothes cover them, but they're still quite distressing to me. Perhaps one day I will find a cure.

14. What was the best thing you bought?
A 20" wide screen LCD monitor for Josh?

15. Whose behavior merited celebration?

I don't know. It always depends on when you ask.

16. Whose behavior made you appalled and/or depressed?
That is a secret.

17. Where did most of your money go?

Getting married and then living...and then Christmas gifts.

18. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Joshua Van Vleet!!! Getting engaged to him, getting to see him, and getting married to him...and getting to see him and be with him as much as possible ever since!

19. What song will always remind you of 2007?
Jim Brickman's "In a Lover's Eyes" (I went down the aisle to it.)

20. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Both...probably because I'm actually acknowledging my emotions now.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter, definitely, probably by fifteen pounds. Quite embarrassing, really. I'm hoping I'll get over all the stress soon and my metabolism will recover. Josh and I need to start exercising, too.
iii. richer or poorer? I think I'm supposed to be poorer, but I seem to have more money and more freedom to spend it...so I don't understand how that happened. If you live with your parents and don't pay rent, etc., doesn't that mean that you should have less money when you get out on your own with your husband? I just don't know...how does that work, really? I think it's because we both work and we share expenses. Well, and we try not to be super frivolous.

21. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Spent time with Josh....

22. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Nothing, really...well, maybe being apart from Josh. I could have stood to have less of that.

23. How will you be spending New Year's Eve/Day?
New Year's Eve at a friend's wedding...not sure about the next day.

24. What was an unexpected surprise?
Not getting pregnant yet.

25. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Yes.

26. What was the best concert you've been to this year?
As far as I can recall, the only one I want to was one of those Air Force (or was it Navy?) bands...and they did big band/swing music. It was fun, but I can't say it was really the best music I've ever heard.

27. What was your favorite TV program?
Well, Heroes is the only one I saw...too much physical and psychological violence for me to enjoy it much, though.

28. Do you dislike anyone now that you didn't dislike this time last year?
Yes...but that's only because I didn't know them last year. Seriously, though, I don't really dislike very many people.

29. What was the best book you read?
I don't remember...I just finished reading Thr3e, by Ted Dekker...and it's really interesting. I've also read a bunch of marriage books, all of which have their own merits. I don't know what really qualifies as the best, though. I've spent a lot less time reading this year than usual. Up until quite recently, most of my spare time was spent talking to Josh. Well, that's actually still true...but I'm finally rediscovering reading.

30. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Jim Brickman...yeah, I was sheltered until my husband came along.

31. What did you want and get?
A husband, a piano, and a digital SLR!!!

32. What did you want and not get?
A baby...I know, sad, sad...I can't think of anything else, though.

33. What was your favorite film of this year?
Can't think of any...maybe Spiderman 3.

34. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Drove to Michigan to visit Josh's family for Thanksgiving. They made me a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and sang to me. I turned 25.

35. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having been more emotionally stable (and emotive) at the outset.

36. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
I'm getting fat....now what am I going to do?! I'm not really into fashion. I just scrape by trying not to look too frumpy.

37. What kept you sane?
I'm not. The stress got to me. Thank goodness I am done with all the wedding madness. I've almost resolved to tell all engaged people that they'd be better off eloping. (Actually, I did think my wedding was a lot of fun...and I didn't have any real stress the day of the event.)

38. What political issue stirred you the most?
Probably illegal immigration.

39. Who did you miss?
Josh.

40. Who was the best new person you met?
I dunno. I mean, I had already met Josh...

41. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
Guarding your heart means that you probably won't get it broken...but it also makes it an impenetrable fortress, which makes it a lot harder to feel love. I think I am still learning that heart-guarding is overrated. There has to be a better way; I just don't know what it is.

42. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Can't think of one off-hand...lame, I know. Maybe I'll come up with something later.

HSAIR

One of the cool things about being married is that I get to brag about this man of my dreams...and not worry too, too much that people will get tired of hearing it.

Seriously, though, I wanted to introduce you all to one of his projects that he works on (with the help of several volunteers) producing each month: HSAIR - Homeschoolalumni Internet Radio. I think I linked to one edition in the past, but I'm pretty picky about what I share on my blog, so this is only the second or third show that is making it on here...

The HSAIR "Boffo" Show (right click and "save as" to download)
Approximately 10.5 MB and 25 minutes in length
If you are interested in more information on HSAIR, you will have to be signed in to Homeschooalumni.org to access the HSAIR blog.

If you've ever seen the YouTube video with Pat Hetic, this radio show is for you. If you've ever been home schooled or known anyone who was home schooled, this show is for you. Do keep in mind that it was released on October 31st, so you might say that the tone of the show is not exactly serious. Anyway, enjoy...
