  • Karaoke King!

I just got back from my exciting day. Today after school my class had a karaoke party. It was set up by Fabio because in about a week many of us are leaving the program to go back home. I was excited for this because recently I have started to get to know everybody in my class. Everyone is cool except for one guy... Hat-san... Thank god he didn't show up though!

So yeah we had about 14 people in this one room set up to sing karaoke for 2 hours. At first everyone was scared. Oddly, I was the first to actually sing... sad thing is it was "Like a Virgin" by Madonna... The girls chose it and no one was brave enough to sing it so I took it. Everyone laughed and took photos of me. However, it wasn't until I requested "Hero" by Enrique Inglesias that I won people over. I sang the song with David however when I sang I made it more sappy and entertaining. People were cheering, smiling, filming us. It was a kodak moment.

Weird thing I notice, was that after I sang that song... everyone became more singing friendly. I broke the ice for everybody. I also noticed after that, that I became the popular one to partner with on singing. People either partnered with me, gave me the mic because I knew the song better, or because the forced me to sing for their entertainment. I was a KARAOKE KING!

The main songs that I won people over with was "Hero", "Bleeding Love", "Glamorious",and "Your Song". I sang all of these with different people: David, Jennifer, and Fabio. "Bleeding Love" got people clapping for David and me. They made us stand up and sing to them. Everyone clapped crazily when we did the rapping parts of the song. Overall, I was entertaining. I will probably get videos of it later because Sara and Kou filmed me singing in about three songs.

After the karaoke we went to Shibuya to meet our other friends. Funny thing is... we came late because Stanley was drunk. During karaoke he drank quite a few beers. Because of that he threw up in the bathroom. Quite gross scene, but it made him feel better.

At Shibuya we met Matt, Steve, and Victoria. We went out to eat and we had a big dinner. It was cool because it was a hang out and talk deal. It was fun and entertaining. Afte we went to Karaoke! So Stanley, David and I were doing karaoke again for the day. This time I got to sing "I'll make love to you" by Boyz II Men. A song that I forgot to request at the other karaoke. It made my night. Only thing we did after Karaoke was we got crepes for Stanley's birthday.

This is an awesome picture Akimi drew for Stanley's birthday. Stanley is the guy with the white hair. The cute T-Girls are in it too! Kou is the one winking and Sara is the one with the sunglasses on her head. I am the guy with the hat on the right! I was soo surprised to be on it.

  • Photo with T-Girls and Experience in a maid cafe.

So I finally have photos of the two Taiwanese girls in my class. After class today I took photos with them on their cameras and then mine. I could tell my celebrity value grew because I would talk to them more at break and also because they keep wanting to take photos with me.

I also caught them after class. I had to go to a Language Exchange with Japanese High schoolers. My group was before theirs so after I finished I waited outside with my friends. They came and noticed me. I heard one of them say my name and pointed at me then giggled. I looked at them and they quickly smile and wave to me while they enter the building... yeah I think I am winning them over haha.

After the Language Exchange my group went back to Akihabara... This time we went to a MAID CAFE. I wasn't allowed to take photos inside so I have nothing to really share with you guys except my experience through this text.

Let me just say it was interesting. You are sent to a room with other customers. Most of the customers are dorky people who are really into anime or can't get girls. I ordered a drink and when you are given your drink you have to do this embarrassing cute move with them. They said it makes the drink better, but we know they are telling us to do this because it makes them look cuter. I will admit they were cute, but their outfits kept making me think they were underage.

At one point they went on a mini stage and played a game with everyone. It was crazy... too surreal for me. I kind of felt weird and out of place. I am not big on anime or have difficulty with girls like these guys. One guy had to go up on stage and I swear he was going to piss his pants. He was too nervous and shy where it looked like if one of the girls touched him he would melt.

It was quite the experience and I recommend anyone to go to one. I probably won't ever go back to one again, but I still recommend it.

Picture with me and Kou-san... not a great picture of both us.. but I have something to share... I also had to bend down since I am taller than her.

Sara and I... again not great pictures but it is something... I also had to bend down for this... she is the one I find the cutest plus she is the one that knows the most English between the two.

Me with one of my teachers, Kawamata-Sensei. She is by far my favorite teacher in the program...

Hehe I didn't have to bend down for this one.

You get a card from the Maid cafe. I am a Level 1 Master...

    Later Days...

P.S. I am glad I got photos with the T-Girls and glad I am on theirs. I think I will talk to Sara more now since I added her on MSN now.

Also I am going Karaoke tomorrow with my class and the T-Girls! Expect Drunk photos of me singing! I am also celebrating a classmates birthday after. He is turning 16 so I am going to get him drunk that night!

  • I am a professional glass beader. Can I make crystal meth now?

Today I made a glass bead. I didn't know what to expect. I was worried it may be a little boring, but turned out to be really cool. The only problem I had with it was that I was in a room with no air conditioning. The weather was humid already, but no air con equal a sweaty stinky Sonlay.

When we got inside the room I noticed that we were going to be making these over stoves. I joked at first saying this is a crystal meth lab. It had a bunch of tables with a bunch of burners and rocks... so I had to make a druggy joke.

Steve making some crazy crystal meth!

Matt smiling from the meth fumes!

Me with my cute instructor!!! FYI I open my mouth when I concentrate.

Oh yeah, dig my new hat?

P.S. Want to donate money to me? Traveling is a bitch on money!

  • Would you ride a row boat with us?

Today David, Matt, Steve, and I went row boating in the Ueno Park. There are three different ponds in Ueno and one of them you are allowed to row a boat, pedal boat, or a swan pedal boat for 600-700 yen an hour. At first I didn't want to go, but realized that if I didn't go then it would make it complicated for them. So I agreed to going. I admit, it was one of the most fun I have had on this trip. It made it even better when David took off his shirt when him and Matt went into one of the row boats. We raced back and forth in the pond where one guy rowed toward one end and you switch with the other guy. Steve and I won, but it was a close race. A lot of times we spun out.

    Later Days...

P.S. I notice I am buying too much in Japan! I need to stop. I have bought 4 tee shirts and a black straw fedora hat with the bill bending all the way around. I promise to stop buying stuff for myself from here on out! It will be a struggle!

  • Kamak-ura

Yesterday I went to Kamakura with my class. There isn't much to say, but that it is more like a nature sight-seeing spot. It was really beautiful, but the heat was killing me. I really don't have much commentary about this except that I slept on the bus there and back by myself. Here are some photos to give you an idea of the place.

So yeah I didn't talk to the Taiwanese girls as much as I want. Kou-san sat with her friend on the bus, which left me alone. Bummed me out, but I at least got sleeping room. I did however talk to her at one of the places while she waited for the other girl I want to talk to more, Sara. I was mingling and things were okay until Ben came in. He is a great guy and all, but I don't think he realizes that he is a cock block. Totally made it awkward for her... Damn! So after that I didn't talk to her much, but she did take a photo of me when I didn't realize it. On the bus she showed me this pic of me trying to figure out how to drink from the water fountain. Made me surprised and made me happy because now I am in like 3 photos of her camera.

    Later Days...

P.S. I have way more photos on facebook. Just look me up and add me if you want to see.
