As much as it pains me to see land, homes, buildings, memories, and nearly anything torn up to be replaced by something "new and exciting," I must admit that I am just as weak as the next human you compare me to. When I mean we are weak, I mean that we rely on too many things in order to keep our lives going. We depend on too much nowdays, that I almost feel ashamed to be living in this age. At least, it just seems to me that it is this way. Technology grows everyday, and humans tend to take advantage of it when they get the chance, solely because technology "makes things easier." But really, it seems to be making us more lazy, and we in turn do less work. "But doesn't the fact that humans can learn to adapt to new changes mean that we're smart enough to handle anything that comes our way?" you might ask. Well, doesn't it seem like we're not really handling anything anyways, considering that computers nowadays can do just about everything for us. I'm not saying that everybody lets computers do all the work for them, because there are still those who enjoy self-satisfaction. However, as we progress through the age of technology, we introduce the future generations to almost nothing BUT technology, and they end up without the values (like hard work) that many people grew up with before any "high-tech" facilities were fathomable. Although this is a weak example, I'll use it anyways - IM's (instant messaging). "Leet (1337) speak" and waiting for replies. What is "Leetspeak" anyways? Well, pretty much the replacement of letters by similar looking letters to create a word. Well, if that's not pretty smart, I don't know what is. Actually I do, and that's learning to type the English language with proper... well, everything. Leetspeak and abbreviations on instant messangers, in my opinion, dumb us down. I've seen cases where people write essays in schools with the spelling of that which they use on the internet, and it bugs me. "I dun no neone who dos that kind of thing, but i wood like to find out." Though that may not have been the exact phrase, I am not exaggerating on the speeling. I wish I was. The over use of this language shows that some minds are not capable to comprehend simple lingos. This next statement isn't quite solid, don't bother reading. I had already typed it out by the time I realized. So, I didn't want to delete it. Waiting for replies doesn't seem like it could be a big deal, but sometimes it is. Nowadays, some people who need to plan something rely on e-mail or IM's to spread the word and expect RSVP. Those are also sometimes the same people who wonder why people, who may be on "Away" or "Busy" mode don't ever reply. They don't seem to realize that sometimes computers could get shut off accidently, or connections could be interrupted before the user gets home to see the message that was left for them. Even waiting for a reply on MSN for example, can be a bit silly. You ask them if they're busy, you give them the full details on what's going on, and all they can give you is "k." Sometimes they might not even reply, and you end up waiting hours before their "Idle" status is removed. Well, within that time you probably could've called them at least twice. So, why not pick up a phone and talk to them straight up? Hearing their voice probably stimulates you to think of a response, and drives you to get closer to (or sometimes further from) the point you were striving for. And, this way, they can hear the intensity in your voice. This lets them know how you really feel about what you're telling them. And, hopefully they can sense that. This isn't an essay, so I'm not going to revisit my "thesis statement." Thanks for reading, I'm impressed you got this far. I had more to say, but it'll just become more tedious than it already it. I think this was all brought on by the fact that my grandparents' store, Dave's Flowers on 49th and Knight, which has been there since 1951, is being torn down, and 10 feet of land is being stripped away from the residents of that street, just because the stupid government or whatever can't seem to realize that Knight street doesn't need another fucking lane, they need a goddamn fucking green arrow light at the intersection so people have a fucking chance to make a fucking turn. Holy FUCK. Way to demolish an old lady's memories, and countless customers' who, still to this day, recognize that nice old lady who used to work her hands to the bone with her husband and her brother to keep the store going healthy and strong. aight PAYCE OUT HOMIES TTYL LOLZ ROFCOPTER CHAIRMANLMAO OMFGWTFBBQBBTBRB *sighz* T_T im s0 1337 i pwnz0rdz y00z f00z! u n00b i'll sh00t y00z 411 d4y 10ng bwahahah B00M H34DSH07!!! |
