| | I am auditioning for drum major.
I'm not even completely sure how it happened, like...it's not like I've been intending on auditioning or anything, but my band director brought it up during announcements tonight, and said to see him afterward if you were interested...I was one of the very few will-be juniors that went to him. I believe there are at least 6 or 7 seniors, 3 juniors?, and 1 sophomore. We're having a little lesson tomorrow at 5 for him to teach us conducting, then auditions are next Tuesday at 4. God, I'm nervous already.
I know I don't want to be head drum major. They stand up on the podium the entire time, and never get a chance to march or play. (Well, in my band, at least.) I would be completely content with assistant, because assistant DM usually just slips out of the drill for long enough to conduct the band facing backfield, and slips back in. Last year, I think Amanda only conducted the ballad. My first year, Nick conducted the ballad and the very beginning of the show, because the entire band was facing sideways and the guard facing backwards.
We'll see how this goes. I'm going to do some reading on conducting and drum majors tonight, to be ready for tomorrow. I'm a little intimidated by the lack of juniors auditioning.
