| Houston Day 2Today, besides taking a class, there are two special things that happened today. Homeless encounter, and naked encounter. (just to get your attention, hehe). HOMELESS ENCOUNTER As the meeting place is only ten minutes walk from my downtown Houston hotel, I did not rent a car this time. The good part is that I get some exercise walking, and do not need to look for a parking space. The bad part is that Downtown Houston is totally totally DEAD, and boring in the evening. Most of the restaurants were closed by 3 p.m. Even McDonald's closes at 7 p.m. I am stuck, BORING!!! After work, I went to McDonald's and ordered a salad and a chicken sandwich to-go to take back to the hotel. Suddenly a long line of what it seems to be homeless people lined up behind me. When I waited to pick up my order, the guy behind me said hi. To be polite, I said hi back. Then he said, "It is so nice to be free again". I frowned a little. He notices, and added, "Oh, no, no. I did not mean I got out from jail. I meant that I was kidnapped by people who hate homeless people. ....." By that time, my order was ready. So I just smiled, and hightailed out of there. I guess I am chicken! Almost NAKED ENCOUNTER After I got back to the hotel, I took a short swim at the hotel outdoor pool. I wore my new "bikini", hehe to replace my torn swim trunk. I swam only ten laps and had to stop. There are four main reasons. (1) I am just slightly sick, taking medicine and still coughing often. It is not easy trying to swim and cough at the same time. So I swam one lap, rest, and then swam again. Not very graceful, I know. (2) As with some outdoor pools, there are some debris. I did not want to swallow dead leaves and bugs when I breath through my mouth while swimming free-style. So I took time to hand-clear the debris. I took out one fly, one flying ant, one grasshopper, and one unknown bug, and lots of leaves. After I clear that, I started to swim, but more leaves fall down. I tolerate that, as long as there is no bug! I hate to swallow dead bugs. (3) As I was swimming, a lady walked from the sidepool and sat down in the main pool I was swimming in. All she did was sit there and stared at me. Just stared, stared, smiled and stared more. Maybe she want to "reward" me for clearing the pool? lol. I do not have a swimmer body, and kind of shy being watched by a lady when I am almost naked ( in my tiny bikini). There is really nothing worth staring, lol. I did not feel comfortable, so I swam to the other end of the pool. (4) Then a group of guys sat at the tables by the pool next to where I moved to, and started to smoke. I am allergic to smoke! So that is it, that is all the "swim" I can afford today. It is no meant to be for me to swim more today. That is all, folks! Night , night! | | |
| Houston tripThe weather is not as hot and muggy as I thought for today. I need that. Somehow the 2 hour time difference throws me a curve!! This is because the class starts at 7:30 am Houston time. That is 5:30 a.m. California. The instructors are insane selecting that crazy start time. Coffee, coffee, and more coffee. Houston crime: The first thing the instructors did was to scare us about the crime in Houston. They said the Greenspoint, Bellaire, and airport vicinity are high crime area. One instructor said his wife got all her luggage stolen from her locked car trunks within a minute at a gasoline station when she went in to pay for the gas. Wonder why they want to scare us like that. Maybe I can use this as an excuse not to move to Houston, lol. ACRONYMS In the class they introduced a lot, a lot of acronyms. Non-stop! These are groups of letters that stands for the first letter of several words. For example, LOL stands for Lots Of Laugh, and so on. One student asked, "Why so many acronyms?" Instructor, "Because we like them." The student asked, "Why several different acronyms meaning the same thing? That is confusing." Instructor, "Those acronyms have been evolved over the years. It is because it makes people life interesting." What is copout. Xanga friends, here are four interesting acronyms mentioned in the class; WOW, NICE, BOD, and SMART. Can you guess what each of these four acronyms stands for? I will treat dinner for the person(s) who have the correct answers. Have fun with them. Please remember these are NOT come-on lines, lol, in case your imagination led you astray. Hint, hint! | | |
