| Home, home againi like to be here when i can. i've made it through my first semester at CBC. Finals were tough, but i pulled through and did pretty well. I even think that i aced my Christian Theology final, which was a breeze compared to the midterm. i start work on monday, so i guess i'll be busy over break. | | |
| of snow and questiesi love it here when it snows. everyone went crazy monday night when we got our first snow. there was a huge snowball fight, Dave and Stephanie and I made the big snowman that some the questies (or questicles) knocked down not even half an hour later. i suppose i should explain what i mean by questie... there is a one-year program here at CBC which includes some of the basic bible classes, but it's mostly a just-for-fun kind of thing. it's called Quest. most of the "questies" are younger, nearly all of them are straight out of high-school and they generally travel in packs. with some exceptions questies tend to not mix with others on campus which leads to a little bit of an "us and them" attitude on both sides. because of their non-mixing and their being the youngest ones on campus, they are often considered to be the cliche obnoxious ones. the knocking down of the snowman was keeping with this character. now this is indeed a generalization of questies (or questicles), but it is based on fact as they tend to be the ones with less homework and more time on their hands to do things that would likely be considered unacceptable or annoying to those who are stressing over term papers (due to the nature of their program). Anyways, back to snow. A bunch of guys played tackle fooball on the snowy soccer field today. oddly enough, no questies played even though they were invited. it was indeed a grand time. my shining moment was when i brought down AJ, who, although shorter than me, is stockier and more built for football (he's one of the best players on the field). goodtimes. | | |

troubles with footwear 3 (the forgotten episode)Now this event is from quite a while ago, in fact it happened the very day after the Jimmy Eat World concert. On that day i was in need of shoes... that morning i got up and my flip flops were broken, my other shoes still smelt rank, and i had class in just a few minutes. i took the only logical choice. i went to class barefoot. i went to chapel barefoot. i went to my next class barefoot. i went to lunch barefoot. that's when the trouble started. as would be expected, it is a health violation for barefeet to be in food-service-type establishments. they didn't actually notice until after i had bought my food, and they just told me to eat quickly and not do it again. that afternoon i went to the mall, bought a cheap pair of shoes that have served me well. this event concluded my footwear troubles. my swamp water shoes have finally stopped smelling bad, and i've cleaned them up so they are back to normal. Thus endeth my footwear troubles... for now. | | |
| it's christmasthere is one thing canadians will admit about american thanksgiving. they admit that it defines the christmas season very well. the official start to the christmas season is right after U.S. thanksgiving. it's perfect. less people agree with the reason that dave koop and i have been trying to spread that pilgrims don't sprout until november and, therefore, you can't celebrate them before november. | | |
| car accidentwrite this for the sake of not having to keep telling people about it... this weekend the youth group that i am working with for service practicum went on a staff retreat at whistler. we carpooled up there, and i had two other cbc students in my vehicle. Jeremy Forbes and Jon Rendall were riding with me. On the way back from whistler on sunday, just as we were getting into Vancouver, traffic stopped. I slammed on the brakes, but i didn't have enough time to stop. I smashed into the back of a guy driving his boss's mercedes. I am going to stop the story right here to tell you that no one was seriously hurt, although Jon got plenty of dust in his eye from the airbag. Because our vehicle only had three in it, we also had extra luggage from people in another vehicle. So the three of us, with the luggage of about 5 and a half people, waited for a taxi on the side of the freeway with the cops. finally the cops decided it would be better if we waited at a gas station, so the stuffed all the stuff in their car (two guitars and stephanie's big duffel bag rode on top of us). then they left us to wait at the gas station. after about an hour, Jon started trying to hitch rides for us from anyone who happened to stop at the gas station. then he started trying the station across the street. we ended up getting directions from a friendly gas station attendant to the skytram (about a ten minute walk, which was longer with the extra luggage). Each of us paid the $2.25 to ride as far as the skytram would take us (Surrey). In Surrey, we caught a bus (still using our tram tickets) to Langley. While on the bus, Jon was called the phone in the HR/RA office in the lounge using Jeremy's cell phone. Alex Peters came and picked us up in Langley, brought us to Wendy's to get something to eat, then brought us back to school. We were very blessed that none of us was seriously hurt. I'm fairly sore, but am feeling much better today. My insurance company is already taking care of things. In the meantime, I am without a vehicle, but am feeling very blessed regardless. | | |
