As many of you know, I recently began my first full-time ministry job at the Eastridge church of Christ in Rockwall, TX. Although I see many current trends as silly and irrelevant, I've decided to "keep up with trends" in the case of minister's blogs. Thus, I will no longer be posting on this xanga site, and this journal will be shutdown in about a week or so. Please check out my new 2 blogs @ the following:

Minister's Corner -- a place where I can post my thoughts and impressions on doing ministry; updated almost every day and always open for your comments and impressions.

Walking Commentary -- my (hopefully) daily Bible commentary primarily for my own purposes, but aways open for your comments and thoughts as well.

**Remember, the advantage of a Blog is that you, the reader, do not need to have an account with them to post your thoughts on my posts. Feel free to comment anytime.

Thanks, loyal readers, for all your comments and thoughts over these past years at Harding, whether here on xanga or on my old livejournal site. It's been a blast, I hope you'll join me in the new world of Blogs.

Signing off,
superinternguy

O Canada...again!

Wow, finally, an update. Yes, this is for real. Make of what you will. I just found it...weird.]

"World of
Warcraft or otherwise known as simply, WoW is one of the most popular
and successful computer games in history. It is a Massively Multiplayer
Online Role Playing Game that 6 million people pay $10 -15 per month to
play. This type of popularity creates a sample size that is large
enough to reflect the forces that control it. In Layman's terms, with
this many people playing this online game at any given time human
nature tends to get a stronger representation.

The first
"reality" check was a bug that caused a plague to outbreak and affect
people's characters in certain cases instantly killing any player below
a certain level.

The second "reality" check was when this group
of Warcraft players otherwise known as a guild interrupted a memorial
service. Apparently, some dude dies in real life who is a popular WoW
player. The people in the game think it would be nice to have a
memorial for the player so they log into his account, take the
character to a lake, and set it up for everyone to come pay their
respects.

A bunch of dudes decide this would be a great time to
ambush everyone so they run over a hill, kill the dead guy's character,
and then wipe out everyone who was there to show their respects. They
filmed the whole thing and put it on the net for everyone to see.

I think I really needed the recharge, away from school with its papers and projects. Friday night my flight was delayed 2 hours, from 8 pm to 10 pm, and I didn't make it to the house until around 1 am. Storms can really cause problems. My flight back, however, was really great. I met some really nice people at the airport. In the terminal I chatted with a middle-aged man named Ben and his father-in-law Tom. They were really nice, and had a lot of nice things to say about the Church of Christ when they heard about my interview with Eastridge. They hunt all over the world, including South America, Canada, and Africa. On the plane, it was a completely full flight, and I sat next to a man named Marty and his 11th grade son David. They were returning to Little Rock from Houston, where David had just finished up his Eagle Scout badge. Marty and I started talking about running when he saw me reading Runner's World, and we talked about his first-and only!- marathon and all what a sense of accomplishment he had even now. It was a great flight...God blessed me with great people to share with!

Today was the club track meet on campus. Considering myself a fairly good runner and in good shape, I did something really stupid...I signed up for the 1500m dash. See, I forgot that 1500m is just short of a mile. And I forgot that I'm used to pacing myself over 3-5 miles, not 1 mile. I have never run so hard, for so long, and felt so out of breath...in my life. Worst part? I lost track of my laps and crossed the finish line thinking I still had one more to go...I was pacing myself too slow! Anyway, it was a lot of fun out at the track for about 3 hours.

Tonight Andrea and I were talking about the significance of smell. We walked through Stevens lobby, where neither of us had been since practically freshman year. The distinct smell of that lobby brought back memories of math tutoring, Nertz, and freshman girls' open house. We started talking about other smells that bring back lots of memories. Here are some of my tops:

1. The dorm at Iron Springs Christian Camp: the Big Room, and the Guys' Side, a combination of cologne, body odor, and outside gravel and grass.

2. The cafeteria at Iron Springs: a combination of cleaning products, fruit punch, and camp food like hot dogs, square pizza, and scrambled eggs.

3. Armstrong Hall: a distinct smell all its own, every time I go in I am overwhelmed with memories of freshman year.

4. Fresh varnish on wood: reminds me of my first night in my loft bed that my mom and dad built for me..it had so much varnish on it I had to sleep in the living room!

Feel free to add your favorite smells and the memories they bring up to this post.

Weird Yet True

Not much to write tonight. I'm at home in Texas, which is really nice. I had lunch with my grandparents and my aunt and uncle today...it was so great to see them. I'm home because tomorrow I interview with Eastridge for one of their new associate ministry positions. I'm really excited about it! I'll fly back into Little Rock tomorrow night and be back on campus around 11:30, hopefully.

So, the reason for today's post title:

1. I watched "Deliverance" with my mom tonight. A definite classic, it was strange yet cool to watch it with her.

2.
