SimplicityThere are a few items in my kitchen that I can absolutely not do without 1. my knives 2. cutting board 3. the micropane :D for all my zesting and garlic pulverising needs 4. the pots and bowls 5. spoons (ladles, wooden stiry things) 6. rolling pins 7. the exopat silicone mat thing for baking stuff ohohoh...and the food processor is awesome for...chopping stuff into little bits As you will note, they are mostly simple things. Few moving parts and fancy doo dads. Things in my kitchen that piss me off other than the fact that the kitchen is super tiny. 1. the stupid MIU mandolin 2. the OXO good grips cheese wire Sadly, the mandolin I picked out for a gift choice. It was so pretty looking with it's stainless steel looking awesomeness and bits and parts. I was blinded by its shininess and the great reviews (the bad reviews came when I looked at it again a few months latter) It's not a complicated machine and should work swimmingly except for the fact it can't actually slice anything and i think I've partially destroyed the holder the one time I tried to cut potatoes with it and ended up raming the potato with all the force I could muster and so chipped bits of plastic off. I ended up cutting the potatoes the way I wanted with a trusty knife. I hear the other people are very happy with their...Boren? Borgen? plastic V slicer for $15 if you are interested T_T The OXO cheese wire....yes...it works well but then it broke 7 months later. We got it to replace the ancient one Jason probably had had for ages (since college for all I know) and it was just this bit of metal with a wire across it. May it rest in peace in some landfill somewhere. The new one we got was a similar concept, except now it had removeable wires and a tension adjuster for the wire. It was this adjuster that broke 7 month later. The thing just snapped (it's plastic) I don't know how :P If I could find another cheapo cheese slicer like the one we had forsaken, I'd do it. OR we could try doing the alton brown cheese board slicing thing. end of the kitchen rant cindy argumentively |
