so i went to Washington State last week and i had a blast. now everyone knows that i travel to visit friends and this was no different. i went to Washington to visit my sister, Nikki. before this visit i had not spent any large amount of time with her in........2...no....3-3 1/2 years....crazy i know. i have lots of stories and a couple pictures so i am going to try to get most of it out cuz i get going about one thing and forget about the rest. here we go.....

Day One:

I left Austin at 8am on Thursday.....i really don't like flying that much especially when i am alone..but it was ok. as we were flying i got the chance to see some of the great creations that God has blessed this earth with. mountian ranges and valleys are amzing at 31,000 feet.

just a sidenote SEATAC is worse than ABIA.

after Nikki picked me up, i found myself starring out the window with my mouth open at all of the pine trees. simply amazing.

Day Two:

That morning we headed out to Mt. Rainier. Being from TX only makes it slightly difficult to read a map in WA. the distances are much shorter than I am use to....luckily Nikki was there to make fun of me along the way....... Holy snot.....i think that we could of stayed on that mountian all day....us TX kids were having a complete overload on our senses....the smell, the view, the lack of sound, the taste and the feel was out of this world. and yes i said taste......snow taste soooooooooooooooo good.

so we met Hank on the way up the mountain. We hungout for a little bit then we continued our way up the mountian. we ended up at a real live mountain lake!!!!!!!!!!!

We hungout there for awhile attempting to take in everything that was surrounding us.....we were in the clouds.

and we mananged to fit in a little free climbing eventhough we couldn't feel our hands.....

as we headed back down the mountain we saw Hank and decided to pick him up and give him a ride to town.....

so there is Nikki getting a picture with Hank.....our friendly snowman.......

Hank sat on the windshield for close to 50 minutes.....he was a great snowman!!!!!!!!

Day 3:

we went to Seattle....it was overcast and moist

there are too many people in that city!!!!!!!

sis took me to REI Flagship.....it was awesome.....2-story...climbing wall....snowboards, skis......pure craziness

then we went to the farmers market

then i tried crab cakes...not too bad

Day 4:

i flew home

great story HUH!

well that is only part of the story there were many other things we did.....

i had an amazing time....can't wait to go back or just move up there.....

Washington state has so many national parks and forests i really don't get why Seattle has such a high suicide rate....ppl don't know what they are missing out on.

OH and do go to Washington in the middle of the semester.....I am having a hard time getting back into the swing of things.....

trip to the panhandle

my weekend

1 bat
8am final
13 hours of sleep
19 hours of driving
21 counties
154 dollars worth of gas
170 dollars two nights in a hotel
1,064.9 miles round trip
seeing B marry the man of her dreams.........priceless

this weekend was great. if you never go on long road trips by yourself i highly suggest that you take at least one in your life time. and by long i mean over 4 hours, (and no i am not going to let you know how many of those i have been on.....just because during random times in the trip passing a random sign would trigger a memory and just make me crack up) .......you really get a chance to examine yourself......i spent 19 hours looking at the beauty of Gods creation......to those of you along the way sorry for not stopping....but i thought of you and waved as i went through your towns.

so the panhandle can be pretty
glad i went the right way
i was so excited to see this cuz i knew i was close
name this town
it just spoke to me.....it says Derstine
some signs reminded me of people...
just chillin
so close
can't see
YES!!!!!!!!! the road that leads to the road that leads to the road that leads to the road that takes me home
yippie!!!!!!! good thing that i don't live all the way in Buda
finally made it

Best Friends???

So I know that I am not the smartest person in the world, and I know that I have said this before but I really do not get the importance of the phrase ‘best friend’. There is something to it that I have never understood and maybe that is why I reject that terminology. I do not like it in the least bit.

Best is defined as

1 : excelling all others <the best student>
2 : most productive of good : offering or producing the greatest advantage, utility, or satisfaction <what is the best thing to do>

Friend is defined as

1 a : one attached to another by affection or esteem b : ACQUAINTANCE
2 a : one that is not hostile b : one that is of the same nation, party, or group
3 : one that favors or promotes something (as a charity)
4 : a favored companion

Even putting these definitions together does not really make a good definition of best friend.

I want to know what is a best friend and how are they any different than all of your other friends?

Recently I have been observing different groups of people and how they use the phrase ‘best friends’ and even ‘friends’. Sometimes it seems like they are using those phrases as I don’t know…..something to hang over your head. ‘hey I’m your friend so you need to spend time with me, talk to me.’ ‘I’m your best friend and you haven’t written on my wall or called me all day today.’ What is the deal?? In today’s world do people not realize there is more to a friendship than being number one on someone’s friends list, or getting a phone call everyday?

Sorry sometimes friendships today seem superficial from the outside looking in, and that just might be because of what people allow the world to see.

I may not give any of my friends that title of best friend, but I try to make sure that they know how special and important to me. All of my friends are important to me in their own special way and there is no way that they can compete with one another. I am so blessed to have amazing friends that are always there when I know I need them and are there when I am in the dark depths of a fight and do not know that I need their support.

So tell me what is your definition of ‘best friend’?

July--took care of Nona and Papa
August--got a job; started back to school
Sept.--school and work; fun rafting and kayaking trips on the weekends
Oct.--school and work; Quad rugby games; grandpop taylor past away
Nov.--school and work
Dec.--school and work

that is the basic run down of my year not really exciting, but i have learned a lot about other people and about myself, if you want more details fell free to ask.

i was outside tonight playing with zeke, and well i really miss my friends......hanging out with the family is good but it gets boring. my favorite new years have been celebrated with friends, and the most memorable ones have been at camp and getting fireworks more than any group of people should ever get. one year i spent close to $100 on fireworks we bought them from scary fat man.....oh and the one year when kelli pulled over and used the port-a-potty next to that fireworks stand, that was flippin funny....oh wells that is all for now i guess
