I bought this company stock early with great promise of rising to new highs. And it did, reaching to great highs in a short period of time...but knowing that a company was young, it was bound to have great volatility. Knowing the beta would systematically hit over 1, I expected the stock price to jump around a bit --increase, decrease, increase, decrease...but ultimately, I held my ground not to sell early to reap the benefits for the future. I put a lot of time and research into it although I must admit, sometimes I just block out the market, just because you know...you just get tire...but for the most part I was up to date. I followed the credit from inception to adding additional leverage, to overcoming competitors' obstacles, to reducing industry risks along the way. I believe in the credit because it had a good idea, its products and services just needed some polishing from the sponsor. The sponsor straightened out the business mix, maximizing its strengths and minimizing exposure to risks. I had good faith, since the sponsor even invested on the subsidiaries of the parent company, sorta like building relationships amongst each other and keeping management happy. The stock was doing fine until the ladder part of the half, an unexpected shift that cost investors to lose the total wholesomeness of the credit. A part of management committed internal fraud, tripping through mandatory covenants imposed. Once the news were disclosed, stock price plummeted. Investors lost trust in the same management team that carried its mission statement well in the beginning. From slow secondary news, I caught it and I sold it but took a big loss. Looks like I have to be more analytical from here on out. I learned that even with high alphas; the right timing, a hot market, the right industry and most importantly, a strong management must all be right for the credit to work. They say you can't turn a bad credit good but once a good credit's gone bad...it's gone forever. Financial lessons at its best or at its worst?

Wednesday, January 03, 2007

Happy New Years!!!

For simplicity. I was preparing myself for this...the excitement, the anticipation, the yearning was building for weeks...it was messing with my head at work and I had countless of sleepless nights and stress at max cap. My mindset was like this before I found out...
& Balling with Ace of Spades.

When the boss called me into his office...I was a bit caught off guard ...especially since it's your first real bonus, which assesses how much value I am to the company. He revealed 5 numbers to me. Current base, New base, % change, cash bonus and equity bonus. I was fcuking impressed...but I coudn't over-react. The very first thing that popped up was go streaking ala Will Ferrell and do cartwheels across the office. I mean damn...this can't be. I mean like "wow"... that's what I said. I was tryna hold back from over- or under-reacting. It felt surreal. I had this nostalgic feeling after I left his office. Flashbacks of days me working at minimum wages and doing non-paid internships. Everything ran in my head...from the very first job that I had, to bad experiences with my previous employers to everyone that have helped me to those that dragged me down. I felt so fcuckin proud...because this bonus just paid off all the hustling and grinding and all the bullshit I experienced through the years. First thing I did was place a phone call to Mom and let her know. I had to share it with her. It was that kind of excitement...sorta like receiving that acceptance letter to your #1 dream school...a feeling you will never experience again...after all next year's bonus wont be as special. It was like a stamp to show that "I made it" and better days will come in the future. Share with me your bonus experience.

To my surprise...it exceeded the number I had in my head by a lot. What made it extra special was the raise they gave me. It was unexpected. It was huge. I only worked there for half a year. It reaffirmed me that I made the correct choice over the Morgan Stanley IBD, CSFB's fixed income and various others. In a pro-rated basis...I have to say that the compensation has to be better than first year analyst bankers. No need to go for 108 hours/week to make $ unless you care more of the aggregate amount. My senior colleague was right as to "you'll be making more money than your peers", that's if youre doing the right thing. I couldnt help but smile all day. Now I just want to celebrate. I want to chill with everyone. Everyone, lets make 2007 even better than 2006.

...Not sure if people still use/read xanga but for those 7 that commented the past entry...thanks!...those comments meant that they took the time to read my bullshit. Merry Christmas to you all.

To not forget the past and keep pushing forward...the theme song is a feel-good song: "Can't Forget About You"
--take a listen...you'll feel that it's all good.

Wednesday, December 06, 2006

OMG ...im fuggin smashed....corporate parties are illey...flowing liquor...5star hotel foods ..
