I Am Not But I Know I AM: Welcome to the Story of God

Unity in the body

If there is one thing that I have learned the past two months it's this: the body of Christ is divided against itself. If I have to hear one more person preach at me about Lordship salvation, im gonna scream. why can't we discuss things in love? why can't we have intelligent conversations with fellow believers and use the BIBLE to back up our viewpoint and not some book that someone wrote in the 20th century? Why can't we LISTEN to what people have to say and not just spout out quotes from a book, completely dismissing what the other person has to say, already labeling them a heretic. Why must Christians bash other Christian organizations?

This is what is on my heart because I know that when God looks at this He isn't pleased.

When unbelievers look at the Church, what do they see? Do they see love? Unity? Peace? Joy? or do they see discord? pride? seclusion?

In a very small way, I feel like the Apostle Paul. All alone in what I know to be true. Paul knew that this would happen. "Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, of there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaing the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose." Phil. 1:1-2   That was his plea for us today.

Imagine what the Church could do if we spent less time fighting against ourselves, and more time evangelizing the unsaved world. Jesus commanded us to go out into the world and preach the gospel, not argue amoungst ourselves.

I know for most people reading this it won't make a whole lot of sense, but this is what we are going through.

Please pray for Daniel and I. This has been a trial in our lives and isn't going to go away any time soon. Pray that God will grant us patience, wisdom, and love toward those here.

Agape,

Ally

Ally, I think and pray for you guys so often!  I love how God will put us in a place of testing without telling us the outcome.  You have no idea how many lives will be changed by both your spoken and unspoken testimony.  I definitely think you are God's little Paul in California! :o)

I think the two of you should...just kidding...I am so proud of how you two see the situation as it is and are willing to make the effort to stand fast. The battle is not going to get any easier when you graduate...so learn well, it will pay off in the months and years to come.

There has to be some bright spots some where? Look for them and they will be found. My pray for the two of you...is that you will find some good friends in a church or at the school. That is how I am going to praying for both of you....I am so looking forward to having great table fellowship during thanksgiving...it will be great. Just 20 days!

Going through local church right now with Sheide shows a very similar outlook.  Anyways I miss you guys more than you could know.  I can't wait till I see you guys again.  I'll be going to Florida in a week for Sights and Sounds.  It won't be the same without 5201 and 5235 and all the other great rooms from last year.  Well I love you guys and you're definately in my prayers.

Take care of Big D,

Caleb

I hope everything turns out for you.  I know how hard it can be.  I am facing similiar situations down in Southern Oregon.  Stay strong and remember that Christ is your strongest ally in situations like these.  Let me know how everything else is going with you...

RYC: Aly, I read what you said, and I understand the logic.  If I lie, then people live, if I tell the truth, then people die.  You are seeking to put someone elses life in front of your own.  It all makes perfect sense....humanly speaking.  That is the problem with human psychology.  It is based off of human ideals and thought.  Humanly speaking.....

And there in lies the difference.  I really appreciate your honesty.  Truth is, I think that most of us would lie in that situation too.  But we arent in that situation, and most of us will never truly be in that situation.  So I dont know if we can honestly say what we would do.  However, I digress.  Humanly Speaking, that logic is sensible.  Humanly speaking we know what will happen, but do we.  Do we know that if we lie that the people wont search the house and find the people anyway?  Do we know that if we dont lie that they will take the people and that they will be killed?  Do we honestly know that if we lie and save thses peoples lives that they wont grow to become bitter murderous people who end up killing thousands more than their murderers?  If we face the truth, we dont know.  We dont know anything.  We dont know what God will do.  So where do we go from here?

I think that we have to focus on two things:

1- God works all things towards His glory and our good.  We are not called to guesstimate as to what God is going to do, we are called to be obedient servants.  We are called to follow after what God has laid out in His word knowing that the excellent is to follow and obey.  We can know that no one, let me repeat NO ONE, can thwart the plan of God.  Therefore all we must worry about is are we going to be obedient servants that follow and choose the excellent or will we be disobedient servants who are trying to be God and decide that we know whats best.  See when we choose to move outside of what God has laid out for us, we are choosing His plan, not ours.  We are choosing OUR ways not His.  We are not infalable.  We are sinful.  We make mistakes.  God makes no mistakes.

2- The fact of the matter and the primary point is does us lying make it anymore right?  Does our lie make the situation better or are we sinning?  Are we just adding to the depravity of the situation?  The primary question is does that make lying right?  No it does not.  Therefore, if we know that the excellent will only come if we choose what God says, then thats all that matters.  All else is less than excellent.  However, this is not a question of good vs. the excellent, this IS and will always be right vs. wrong.  Sin vs. Obedience.

Thanks for your honest thoughts.

RYC: Aly, I think that you make a good point.  Is it sin if we think it in our heart?  Well, Jesus said that if we lust in our hearts that we are guilty of adultry.  If we hate our brother that we are guilty of murder.  So does that mean if we think a lie in our hearts we are sinning?  I cant say that I know definitively.  I think that I would rather lean on the side that says yes, and seek not to lie even in my thoughts or heart.  If its not, and I still seek not to lie in my thoughts or heart, its still good thing right.

In your circumstances of the job situations, you are stating situations.  Are we thus letting situations determine sin?  Does the fact that its your job make it not a sin?  I think that the reason the job is there is a result of the fallen world that we live in.  But that being said, I dont think it makes it right.  When we let the situation determine our ethics thats called....Situational Ethics....I am not trying to say that you cant be a Christian and be an undercover cop.  If I narrow it down to one question it would be is sinning ever right, by Gods standards?  Now the first thing that people say is, "Well what about when.........or well what if......"  and we bring up situations.  Again, do we allow situations to determine whats right and whats wrong or does the Word of God?

RYC:  Aly, is spying lying?  I guess if you break it down to irriducible minimums it is.  Lets remember though that God didnt tell them to spy out the land.  The Israelites came up with it.  God told them, theres the land, its yours go take it!  Again, as I said before, I am not saying that they did things that were wrong or made decisions that werent the excellent.  That is the result of living in a fallen world.  But it doesnt make it right.  And so when we CONSCIOUSLY choose to do wrong or to do something that would not be Gods excellent, we are in the wrong.  I appreciate your questions.
