| I was so confident starting my VMCAS application. I'm a solid choice. I have pretty good grades, good test scores, plenty of vet and animal experience. I'm a good writer, so I'll nail the personal statement.
Except now I have my personal statement open before me, a barely started document whose emptiness mocks me. My literary wit has abandoned me--I cannot phrase myself satisfactorily. I cannot deliver my qualifications and experience with the dazzle and punch necessary. I feel uncreative, uninspired, and dully unable to write. How do I make myself stand out? How do I make myself irresistible to UGA? I will go nowhere else.
| If you had a million dollars, what little things would you spend it on? Ignore big things like house/car/savings/investment. What little changes would you make in your life if money weren't an option?
I thought about this after seeing an advertisement for Bowflex. That equipment looks awesome, but they never tell you the total cost of it, which is somewhere around $1000-$1500. Way out of my budget for some time to come. And I also need to buy a laptop, and finance Australia, et cetera et cetera.
So, I started thinking--what kind of those little purchases (little for a millionaire, anyway) would I make? And, perhaps more importantly, what wouldn't I change?
For one, if I was in uncomfortable heels, I would definitely valet my car. Normal shoes, I'd still walk. And as delicious as eating out is, I don't think I'd like to do it too frequently--the good stuff is rarely low fat. I'd get a horse (or two), but I wouldn't buy a whole ranch. I'd still work, even if I was a multi-millionaire. But maybe I wouldn't work the same hours as I'll have to work without the money. And I don't think I'd pay the ridiculous prices of designer clothing, except for maybe the occasional expensive dress ensemble.
I'd also like to do charitable things. There are plenty of them I'd like to support. Locally: Teen Advisors, Begin Again, the local Humane Society, the Valley Rescue Mission. On a bigger scale: the ASPCA, the International Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, Compassion International. I just can't make a difference when I'm making minimum wage and going to school full-time.
What about you? What would and wouldn't you change?
| I think the most interesting part of the 4th of July is being outside lighting fireworks, hearing and seeing other people in your neighborhood doing the same. The chorus of squealing rockets and beautiful explosions sends one unmistakable message: Screw you, Britain, we're still better off without you!
Not that I really feel that way. It's just an amusing sentiment.
| Best. Work day. Ever. : ) | | |
| July ScheduleWe had a lunch meeting today, and at the end of it he mentioned that he had to schedule some people a lot, and, looking directly at me, some people even more than they'd like. I said nothing, privately thinking that that was nearly impossible but not hoping that he hadn't scheduled me over Michael's birthday when I'd asked off. I got the schedule and exulted: I am scheduled a ridiculous, FABULOUS amount, and I have off the weekend I requested plus the last weekend of July, which are both weekends I'd like to spend with Michael.
Unless otherwise noted, I work 7:30-5:50 weekdays, and morning and evening weekends. I am OFF: Tuesday, July 1st Friday-Sunday, July 11-13 for Michael's birthday Monday, July 21st Wednesday, July 23rd Sat/Sun, July 26-27
That means I'm working about 175 hours for the month, which is at least $1000 before taxes. Hot damn!
Oh and I got a new keyboard to replace my crappy old one. It's louder but works much better, and doesn't have a tiny backspace key.
